Grouse & Claret, Matlock by Marston's Inns

We stayed for a night on the campsite behind the pub. £30 for the night which included electric hook up. Great amenities and so well kept. We enjoyed a meal and a few drinks in the pub beer garden as well as a lovely breakfast the next day. Some lovely walks nearby. Would definitely recommend.

The pub is absolutely gorgeous inside and has a lovely beer garden with plenty of tables, outside bar and there’s even a campsite on site. Right next to the river, it’s in a stunning location BUT is really let down by the food. My husband had the burger and chips, both of which were luke warm. He wasn’t impressed. I had the roast dinner / our waitress asked me if I’d like cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and stuffing, to which I said yes please, thinking she was checking whether I liked these items and wanted them leaving on my plate. She wasn’t, she was upselling these items for over £10 in the end, I was not impressed. The Yorkshire pudding was ghastly, over cooked and horrible, pigs in blankets were anemic, roast potatoes weren’t roasted and crisp, I could go on but safe to say it was not good. It’s such a shame because it’s got so much going for it but really let down by expensive poor quality food

Meal and a nights camping. Many fond memories of this restaurant from years ago. Took the family for a meal and night away. £40 for a pitch was very expensive when all we used was a toilet visit in the morning. Food was good, but just under £9 for a cocktail that wasn’t made right and staff that were obviously new and hadn’t been trained yet, poor lad was getting upset with the till system just ordering food. Didn’t say anything at the time as don’t think I would have got very far.

Great hotel, love the decor in the rooms. Rooms immaculate and tidy. Loved the little refreshments stand in th3 room. Bed comfortable and had a very good night's sleep. Food was excellent as we're the drinks. Sunday roast was banging. Highly enjoyed our time here and the whole team were very friendly and helpful.

We actually stayed on the Grouse and Claret caravan site. We found it was very well situated for a walk / cycle ride to Bakewell, Matlock, Chatsworth etc. Toilet block good condition and clean. It felt a little like they put couples at one end of the site and families at the other which was good. All the staff we dealt with both about the site and in the pub were good and polite. Small suggestion some of the showers could do with somewhere dry or more hooks to put your ‘stuff’ on.

We so enjoyed our two night break at the Grouse and Claret! Very convenient location for exploring the Peak District. Our room was very well appointed , spotlessly clean, very quiet (given it's proximity to the main road) and with a lovely spacious bathroom (including a bath!). The place had a very welcoming atmosphere ... the manager and staff were all extremely polite and helpful. The food menu was extensive and the quality of the produce was very good. The Grouse and Claret is a great venue for couples, families and those wishing to use the adjoining campsite. it's good value too. Thank you ... we're sure to return!

Always exellent value for money and always good food my steak was perfection and the service quick both of us enjoyed our food the salad was crisp and a wide variety of drinks on the drinks menu for those that drink, the room spotless and comfortable really is a lovely place we both loved our night away.

Good pitch for our motorhome,WC and shower block clean, but could do with updating, water and elsam avalible ,drive over grey water point would be good. The staff are first rate, hats off to Josh, who was really helpful and full of local knowledge. Would go back.
