I was skeptical what a boutique hotel or upscale hotel would be like in downtown Merced. This hotel exceeded expectations.
Parking choices are valet or street parking. However, it’s only 15$ a day for valet. Your car to be parked in a secure facility. Having peace of mind was worth it.
Social areas and eateries on the main floor are fantastic and very stylish. I wish I had more time to linger. Morning lattes in Native have me wanting to stay in and savor the experience. There are also great restaurants nearby.
We look forward to staying here for future Merced visits.

In General we liked this hotel BUT the parking situation is pretty bad unless you want to pony up $15 per day for parking. They devote a large number of parking spots for Valet but less than half are used from what we observe while we have to fight for the few free parking spots. This added unneeded stress to our stay.

Hotel decor was adorable. Record player and records were a nice touch. Spacious room but small bathroom with no counter space.

Nice place. Parking is around the corner in a garage. Not a far walk. Went to the bar and they said they served food. Don’t buy. It’s cold sandwiches from a vender not made fresh. That was a downer.

I feel that i paid more for location and this being a new hotel. In the bathroom theres no railing and with the ground being wet theres a fall risk and nothing to stabalize yourslef. I looked on their website and another website to see if theres free breakfast, both said there was and where to go. I go to the place and theres no free breakfast. The food wasnt very good and wasnt worth the price.

Reserved Joe's Boardroom for work meeting. Rachel and the El Capitan Team are top notch.
Reserved 3 suites for colleagues. All quite affordable especially in comparison to not just Merced hotels but Fresno, Modesto and Sacramento.
Parking is free at the lot immediately next to the hotel. However, valet parking is only $15 per day.
The courtyard is beautiful. Plenty of great common areas to meet and talk. The adjoining restaurant Native Son has great drinks, food, and service.
I look forward to returning soon.

We stayed at El Capitan during Thanksgiving '23. We loved the hip vibe, amenities in the room, cafe/bar downstairs, and pleasant staff. Unfortunately, this hotel is very loud with street and train noise, and paper thin walls. Most of my family did not sleep during our three day stay.

The hotel was great for what it is. Service is great from the second you arrive.
As for cleanliness, I gave it a 4 stars only cause as you walk in you get the smell of a pet store. The the front carpets are stained and I’m guessing that has to do with the dogs.
But all in all the place is a great place to stay in.
