Orchard Queen Motel & RV Park

Cancelled reservation 3 weeks in advance and have no received a refund. Manager has stopped responding to emails and calls a week ago. Very unprofessional and upsetting. Have to open a dispute with my bank as I’m a single mother and need the 495$ put back on my credit card for school shopping.

I'm writing this review not because I was there but due to the lack of empathy from Ryan manager/owner of the Motel. Nova Scotia was hit with 200-400mm of rain overnight July 21st into the 22nd. Which caused flash flooding and Highway closures. I had booked an overnight stay at Orchard Queen for July 22nd. We started to make our from Halifax anyway. In hindsight we shouldn't have been on the road. It was not safe. Highway 101 was closed due to large scale flooding and road damage. We had no choice but to turn around. I called the Motel and left a voice message saying I couldn't make it, the reason why and asked not to charge my credit card. They charged me anyway. My husband calls and explains the reason again why we couldn't make our reservation. Ryan explained their 48 hr cancellation policy. He was unwilling to issue a refund. Who cancels ahead of time because of rain? I'd think twice about booking here. They don't care whether your car was swept away, house was flooded or even if there was a death in your family. Expect to be charged regardless. Heartless!

We booked a stay at this campground while visiting family in the Middleton area. It is easy to find and a convenient place to stay with pull through sites for travelling RVers. Travellers to this campground should travel very slowly as there are numerous potholes in the campground roads and watch out for the low hanging overhead wires. This campground is not a great choice for long and tall RVs. When we were leaving this campground after our stay, we hooked our tv antenna on low hanging overhead wires breaking it off. When we contacted the campground owner about paying for the repair, they quoted their terms and conditions stating they were not responsible for damage and suggested we put a claim through our insurance. These overhead wires are not at a height that would allow tall height RVs to pass under them without coming into contact with them and possibly damaging your RV. Immediately after our incident, a campground representative indicated that they were advised that overhead wires needed to be raised the previous year but did not make the necessary repair. In summary, a stay with an unexpected, costly repair to our brand new RV with no compensation nor apology provided by the campground owner.
