We’ve just got back from a 10 day holiday in Morzine, staying at Le Cret, through Ingram’s lakes and mountains. We are a group of holiday walkers and opted to try Morzine/France as an alternative to our many pervious Austrian walking holidays. There were some great things about this hotel, however, they were marred by others. On arrival, our party of two couples were offered rooms 5 and 31. 5 is on the ground floor and 31 on the 3rd. Initially we took room 5 and discovered a very compact room, with a balcony overseeing a not so delightful car park. I immediately went to reception to explain, this is not something we expected and were told as we were last in the hotel, that’s what we got. So be aware whilst you may think you’re getting a glorious room with a Mountain View you can be left with a concrete jungle outlook. Our friends in room 31 also came down from their room straight away, Their view was of the pool area and mountain, however as it was housed in the attic area of the hotel, low beams were a problem as our friend had the risk of head injury due to his height. As it was clear the hotel were unable to offer alternatives we swapped rooms. Room review - This relates to room 31 - The decor is very dated, with curtains fraying at the bottom, windows which are impossible to open due to worn out mechanisms. There is no such thing as a private balcony as they are shared with all those on the same floor. Smoking is permitted on the balcony, which means if a neighbour smokes this comes into your room. There is no privacy essentially. We are used to room facilities such as a mini fridge and/or tea/coffee making opportunities. These were both missing. We took our own kettle however, getting milk was an issue, as the nearby supermarket only sold huge bottles which you can’t store, and whilst you could get some milk at breakfast only it spoilt quickly. When I asked for a small cup at the bar enough for maybe 6 cups of tea, I was charged 2,50 in euros - daylight robbery! The hotel does profess to offer drinks and cake at 4 pm,, however, don’t expect to get any as it’s targeted to the kids clubs families and if you’re not part of that, you’re ignored and there is not enough to go round. Essentially if you want a hot drink other than at breakfast it comes at a cost. We managed to get a cold squash/presse on our first day, other than that nothing. Turning now to rooms. Our room 31, was meant for 3 people, goodness knows how you’d get everyone in though. The bed looks a little bigger than a standard double, but in reality it isn’t. It’s a box with a mattress topper on it, which overlays the edge, implying bigger but do not be fooled as once you lie on it, you realise it is smaller than it portrays. The type of topper makes for an extremely warm sleeping experience, add to that summer heat and no fan/air con you’re in for a restless night. There is a table and chairs, however, they are not suited to resting in and were not us
