We were well looked after here. The staff are very welcoming, helpful and attentive. The lodge is just a 10 min drive to Volcanoes National Park and the Fossey museum is a minute’s walk down the road (we walked there and several young people wanted to talk to us but we never felt unsafe). The rooms are very spacious and have a fireplace and seating area. As other reviews have said, they light the fire for you in the evening while you are having dinner. So when you return to your room, it is nice and warm. They also leave a hot water bottle in your bed, which was the most efficient hot water bottle I have ever experienced, because when I woke up 8 hours later in the morning, it was still warm! The Wi-Fi is hit and miss, but we found that to be fairly typical during our travels around Rwanda. Not a big deal for us, but it may be for some travelers. The floors are stone, so we were grateful to have a pair of flip-flops to wear. They do provide slippers though. Shower was hot and good pressure. All shampoo etc is provided. We had several meals here and they are delicious. In the evenings when it gets a little cooler, they put a little wood burner to give you heat. You may have company while you eat with the lodge’s resident dog Sparky. He’s a great dog so give him lots of love. As the other reviews have mentioned, a nice touch was when they cleaned our boots after our incredibly muddy trek to see the gorillas. They also gave us a very nice foot massage. Overall, we had a really great experience here and I would recommend staying.
