Hotele niedaleko Penn Station, New York

Recently back from a 4 night stay here. The positives first, reasonable distance to attractions, comfy bed, clean enough, nice staff, good elevators. The staff kindly acknowledged my birthday with wine and treats, thank you. The negatives, we arrived at 2pm, check in was supposed to be 3pm, didn't get checked in until after 4pm, a bit disappointing to spend 2 hours hanging around the reception. This is a sketchy area, there is an issue with drug use here, you will encounter junkies every time you walk along the street to the hotel, they hang out on the corner on sofas and chairs. In the room itself my main complaint was the noise of the aircon, it sounded like a jumbo jet was landing on the bed, the bathroom fan was on 24/7 with no off switch which was an added layer of noise. We had to freeze the room while we were awake as we had to switch off the aircon to get any sleep but then the room overheated. It made for 4 sweaty, sleepless nights unfortunately. Hotel said they would send someone up to check out the aircon but we never heard anything. As the hotel was full there was zero chance of us being moved so we just resigned ourselves to the noise. As diamond member, did not receive upgrade but was allowed $10 pp to spend at the hotel. As the restaurant was closed and there was no bar, all that was left was the overpriced shop. $4 for yoghurt, $4 for kind bar, that was about it for the allowance. This is my 5th visit to NY in 8 years and my least favourite hotel stay yet, unfortunately I would not return.

Trendy hotel. The service was excellent. In a good location just south of the Times Square crowd. I stayed here for just a night on my first trip to NYC. I am glad I did. The amenities, like unlimited bottled water, are a plus. The bed was super comfortable. The room was clean and updated. Only negative was that the USB ports did not work, but luckily I brought my wall charger with me and that worked. I also wish the bed-side speaker were Bluetooth-compatible, but, of course, this is a minor dig and irrelevant to most. My view was meh, but luckily I was not able to hear any street noise from my tiny queen-bed room on the 22nd floor. I would definitely stay here again.

I love its location. It is convenient to go to Times Square, Hudson Yard, Central Park, Penn Station and many subway stations. Though it is convenient, it is not as lousy as those in Times Square. Like most of the hotels in NYC downtown, the room is not spacious, but it works well for me. At least it has a sofa. The rooms are pretty modern with multiple USB plugs. The bed is super comfortable. The room is sound proof so it is great for light sleepers. Maybe the hotel is in the fashion district, the interior design reflects it by adding a seeing machine toy to the night stand. The staffs are super nice. The bellman on the first floor is amazing. They not only store luggages, provide directions but also remind hotel guests the temperature outside might be cool that it is better to put on a jacket before stepping out. The hotel is popular. The check-in time is 4 pm even you are an elite members.

A few blocks from Times Square, A option without being in the middle of chaos. You know what you’re getting with a Marriott property in this location was very nice for our family. It has a large lobby with lounging area to sit and relax. Some other hotels in Manhattan are just a front desk and elevator. Also a bar open until midnight and a large breakfast area that accommodates about 100 people. The rooms are small, like most NY hotels, but very comfortable. Since the property goes straight up, No matter where your room is, you won’t be walking far from the elevator. The only observation that I will make about the neighborhood is that even though you are away from the chaos of Time Square, the neighborhoods leading up to times Square are not the nicest. This is the first time back to NY in 10 years, and I believe the hoodlums and homeless on the street is worse. With the legalization of *********, it’s not an exaggeration to say that you will smell it on every block and see it being sold on the street by peddlers. Although we felt safe, I think somebody alone at night would not. During the day, there are thousands of people around so you shouldn’t be unsafe. I should point out that I don’t think that this experience is particularly unique to this neighborhood. I think you are safe with any Marriott property in Manhattan, but this one is centrally located and close to Time Square, if that’s what you want.

The service was okay. But at the checkout they surprised me with a 130USD of hidden fees. The comforter didn't have a cover and when I ask for one they told me that it wasn't possible. We only had 2 pillows that felt really cheap and we were suppose to have a queen mattress but we only got a double. There's a lot of noise in the room and a lot of light even with the curtain fully closed. The doormen looked very bored and they never opened the door or even said hi to us. The location is very good, and the room was clean.

The location is OK, the price is OK, the room is small for sure, it is impossible to open two 28-inch boxes at once.

Holiday Inn, 6th Avenue, Manhattan We are a much travelled family and have used Holiday Inn many times in different cities worldwide. It was a brand that we, as a family, had confidence in. The accommodation was as expected and the cleaning staff should be praised. However, we were bemused by the demeanour of the other staff – front of house and in particular, breakfast staff. We could only conclude that Holiday Inn had given work experience to people from other backgrounds who had no experience of interacting with the public or serving at tables. We took a while to check in, the young man with headphones in, couldn’t find our reservation. There was no apology and, crucially, no explanation as to how the unique breakfast system worked. We found the breakfast room the following morning, eventually a young man came, we thought that he may normally have been a plasterer or welder trying out this new job, and told us that we needed a voucher from behind the reception desk to access breakfast. This voucher allowed us one item off the menu – any additional item such as orange juice had to be paid for. It was not permitted to pick up vouchers for my two sons or to pick up vouchers in advance for the next two days. The ritual of picking up the daily voucher was bizarre! Each morning was a transatlantic scene from Faulty Towers and proved to be a most memorable experience for all the wrong reasons. We had an amazing time in New York and had so many fantastic experiences of superb hospitality and service; the antithesis of our experience at the hotel. The location of the hotel was excellent

Great, central location in midtown, easily walkable to Times Square, musicals, ktown, and more! We pretty much walked everywhere! Convenient to nearby subway station (34st - Penn station). Service was great, Hilton honours members get perks, and they have a little store in the lobby, business room for printing, gym, coin washer/ dryer all in the building. Felt very safe. The hotel’s not the newest but the room size is decent for New York standards. Washroom is a good size too. We were facing the back alley so there were no noises at all, super quiet. There’s also breakfast every morning, and it was not bad though if you want nicer stuff, you should definitely goto the nearby cafes. We really enjoyed our stay here, had everything we needed! ☺️

My husband and I have stayed at many hotels in New York with little to no issue. We are not picky or bougie and just expect a hotel to meet the basic needs and comfort of its guests. The Hotel Hayden is never to be stayed at again for failing to meet even these basics and more. It is located in a popular and central area of Manhattan. That is it's only positive feature. The following is our list of our experiences as they affected our stay and the overall safety (standards) of our stay. NO WORKING PHONES IN THE HOTEL. Phones in rooms, hallways do not work. We asked the desk about this and they said simply, Yes our phones don't work! Anyone staying in this hotel, with medical needs, in distress, in emergencies like power outages or fires are PUT IN DANGER without direct contact with hotel staff and/or other emergencies services. Take an elevator or the stairs to access help from staff. This is complete unbelievable and puts this hotel in violation of multiple laws and in provision of the basic customer service(s). BOUGHT OUR OWN PILLOW at a local department store. Having a severe allergy to feather pillows, I usually get a synthetic/foam pillow from even the most basic of hotel, even hostel. After 2 hours of waiting, going to down to the lobby, because we couldn't call from our room, they provided a stack of bath towels. No joke. This was all they had in the entire hotel. ZERO QUALITY IN CUSTOMER SERVICE. The staff, which were present sometimes, lacked personality, presence and concern for anything, including simple hellos, room requests, spending most of their time on their own personal phones. While accessing the only ice machine in this 100+ room hotel, in the basement, I was told by the only positive staff member (security) that most attention is put on the parties they book and the club nights they offer to the public. The party happening that night had underage guests who were drunk and like other nights that followed, were allowed to roam freely. Security and staff were always thin on response and action. Honestly, this hotel, should it still not have active phone lines, is without question the most unsafe hotel we have ever stayed at. We seriously thought of contacting local fire services to inform them of the safety violations for this hotel. We are glad to have left and would never under any circumstance tell anyone to stay here.

Original review posted on May 10th, 2024. Checked in at 345pm. THE ROOM THEY GAVE US HAS NO WORKING AC upon checked in, and after dealing with two maintenance call with no results, we stepped out for dinner. Now @ 10 pm and the room is 80 degrees and the AC is not even turning on! Needless to say i was not a happy camper and told The manager, Justin Jefferson, if he had done his job and switched us 6 hrs ago this would not have been a problem! Instead of being apologetic, he was rude and basically told me they will switch my room tomorrow and he is giving me 50% off tonight and actually WALKED AWAY! The front desk agent and i was left standing there flabbergasted! The poor is trying his best to talk to me, basically doing the job the MANAGER should be doing! Apparently AC is a problem at this property as i overheard another agent telling a guest over the phone to ‘just open your window’? I have filed a complaint with Marriott corporate as leaving a paying guest in an hotel room @80 degrees with NO AC cannot be ok? Depending on what room correction i am given tomorrow, formal complaint to The Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) might be in order? Update after check out : We did received the 50% discount on our first night’s rate of $323.95, but they ‘re-rate’ our night instead of taking out 50%, not sure if this is an effort to ‘hide’ the fact that they had to give a 50% discount for an unfit to occupy room? Received a standard reply from Geetika Ghai to ‘email’ her back to further discuss? I know this game they will never follow-up, which is why i am posting this updated review as Tripadvisor reviews cannot be updated, just cancel and repost. There is nothing Geetika Ghai - Director of Front Office with Bridge Hotel Group, can write to excuse what happened to us because apparently she was the one that said NO to moving us after she and Justin Jefferson were briefed about our room with no air and a dangerous bathroom door! This was told to me by Justin Jefferson, that is unless he is lying? The bathroom barn door track was so damaged that it was resting ON the carpet and it was impossible to open if you are in the bathroom, we had to open and shut the door for each other each time we want the door closed. Requested additional pillows did not show up after 6hrs, housekeeping was going to give us lotion but it never showed up! We were moved to the other end of the same floor (14th) to the identical room with a working (although difficult to control accurately) AC. We accepted it as are just so relieved to have AC after a night of no air and 80 degrees! The problem with this new room is that it’s at close proximity to the ‘maintenance’ office. You will hear their door slam shut multiple times early in the AM and sometime late into the evening, and our room will vibrate violently with each slam!
