Hampton Inn Newport News-Yorktown

Part of a family vacation this area was new to us. The hotel is conveniently located close to several services, restaurants, and a grocery. Also easy to access. The facilities are clean and well maintained. Standard Hampton Inn amenities. What really made our stay was two amazing Hampton Inn VIPs: Duane at the front desk for welcoming us and providing tips on what to see and where to go, and Helen at breakfast.

I would stay here again though this stay wasn't the greatest. I would not expect the same issues next time, and the staff were pleasant and helpful. The hotel was under renovation so we had to enter through the back door. Made loading luggage in a little tricky, but a staff member happened to be by the door and offered to assist. At 3:30 a.m. the fire alarm went off. A staff member said it was not an emergency, that someone was smoking in their room. Thought that was strange as the guests two doors down from me said their detector had been flashing intermittently throughout the night. Ours never flashed at all, not even when the alarm outside our room was going off. The fire depar**ent came to my (adult) son's room to check that detector saying it was his that set it off. My son doesn't smoke, which apparently was easy enough for them to figure out with no smell of smoke or evidence of smoking in the room. An hour or so later the clock alarm went off. We hadn't set it. I turned it off but some time later it went off again. I unplug it from the wall. It went off again. I finally buried it under a bunch of pillows. It finally stopped. The next morning I overheard a maintenance person telling a staff member something along the lines of minimal things they could do as the fire alarm system was old and perhaps, given a big storm rolled through during the night, some water had gotten to the wires and set it off. So we didn't get a good night's sleep, but the staff were pleasant and the room was clean. In particular, the lady manning the breakfast and coffee station, Helen, was a doll. She asked everyone how their evening was, helped anyone who needed it, immediately cleaned off tables when people left, always wore a smile, and was just ever so delightful. My mother said the grits were the best she'd had in a long while. She told Helen it was obvious she knows how to cook grits. Helen smiled, thanked her and said she's been making grits for a long time. Thanks Helen, for being you! Five stars for Helen!

Thank you Hampton Inn for the hospitality and delicious breakfast. The food was hot and fresh. I also appreciate that the staff at the front desk staff were very friendly. The beds are very comfortable. I also like that this hotel is nearby various dining and shopping.

The staff is very kind especially a nice lady name Helen. Wonderful lady she made a tasty breakfast and had wonderful suggestions. Grits taste great and so did everything else. Me and Ms. Helen had a wonderful conversation and overall just a great start to my morning. The rest of the staff is also very kind and helpful as well.

We enjoyed our stay. The only issue was that our room was next to the elevator, so we heard it throughout the night.

Ms. Helen was absolutely wonderful! She was pleasant & very helpful with breakfast! She even helped us gather our food and gave us information on were to go hiking. Emily at the front desk was very informative, attentive and great! We can't for forget about how awesome Duane was!

It was a little hard to find my way to front desk on a Sunday night because check-in signs outside pointed to a locked door. I was able to go in the front, which is undergoing exterior renovation. Hotel still looks great inside. I was greeted at the front desk by a lovely person who made me feel welcome. Room was spacious and nice. Breakfast was being prepped as I checked out so I was able to grab a banana and yogurt to take with me to airport. Overall it was a great experience.

The staff were all helpful. The hotel was clean and comfortable. Would definitely stay again. Breakfast was also plentiful.

Great hotel. Amazing breakfast. Front desk very help. Clean is clean. Bathroom well stocked. Super convenient location, too. Close to I64 but not noisy at all. Helen really made sure it's delicious!
