We had dreamed of staying here to feel the remoteness of the crater by night. At last we succeeded in booking a superior double. The welcome was friendly and we could book a table for dinner without having chosen half board. It turned out later that half board gives a fixed rate for the same menu, but about half the dishes come with a surcharge. You can easily get a great meal with fresh produce without the surcharged dishes. Our room had a fantastic direct view of El Teide, dark wood furniture, bathroom with a bath and double sink and complimentary lip salve as well as other items. The hotel has a policy on reducing the use of single use plastics although it still has room for further steps here. We took a quick hike around the rocks for a magnificent sunset, but beware that the last 200m is a scramble steeply uphill, and the path is not clear, so hard to navigate in the dusk. Allow 1,5 hours for the circuit if possible. Dinner was delicious and beautifully presented, large portions and a tireless waiter who dashed around bringing our dishes very promptly. The bed was very comfortable with different pillows. Before we turned in, we popped outside to do a bit of stargazing and enjoy the silence but had to walk a bit away from the hotel as guided tours offered the same experience and the lights from the hotel and cars made it harder to see. Better to take a lamp, walk a bit away, then turn it off for viewing. Breakfast was extensive and offered a number of cold cuts, cheese, fruit, yoghurt etc and each guest had their own tongs for serving themselves, which must go a long way towards good buffet hygiene. As well you can order hot dishes but they took some time to come. A professional cycle team was staying in the hotel at the same time and we could enjoy our breakfast alongside of them - considerate guests. All in all a lovely stay and perfectly situated to enjoy the park without too many other people.
