Peaks of Otter Lodge

We have loved the Peaks of Otter Lodge for a quiet getaway for many years. The room was very comfortable with good amenities. We first started coming in the '1980s and '90s when the Lodge offered a winter special featuring breakfast and dinner included in the price of the stay. Back then, the food at the Lodge's restaurant was prepared and cooked on site, and the restaurant was very popular and well-known around the area for its excellent food. In recent years, however, ownership of the restaurant changed and the food has never been the same. The food tastes like it's prepackaged and merely heated up at the restaurant, and the menu prices are very high for the quality of the food being offered. In spite of the sub-par food, the wait staff was excellent, and the dining room offers a beautiful view of the lake and Sharp Top Mountain. Overall, I recommend staying at the lodge if you're wanting a peaceful respite in a beautiful setting. But you may want to make the 15 minute trip to the nearby town of Bedford for your meals.

Always a peaceful quiet place to visit. Love sitting by the lake visiting with friends. The rooms need sprucing u as far as cleanliness. Bathroom tiles, floor boards and blinds needed a good cleaning. We had the breakfast buffet about an hour or so after it started. The eggs and potatoes needed replacing. The gravy was delicious but lukewarm. This is the second time we have had the buffet and both times it was like this. Yesterday was Father’s Day and they were super busy but the waitress was great and everyone’s dinner was good. Not much traffic for breakfast the next morning so maybe make smaller batches and refresh the buffet more often. All the staff throughout were nice and professional.

This is really a great weekend destination. Quaint and historic property with trails and nice lodge atmosphere.

This is a gem of the National Park Service, not so much for its rooms which are clean but basic, but for the incredibly lovely surroundings. The lake has a paved path around it, the sounds of birds fill your ears as soon as you open your patio or balcony door, and the lovely vistas of lake, trees, and mountains are so totally calming and relaxing. It’s about 12 miles from Bedford, VA and the amazing National D-Day Museum, on an easy but winding road in the Blue Ridge Mts.

Excellent location with abundance of recreational options! Very good job of renovating an older facility. Would check about vacuuming behind furniture. Had to plug something in behind chair and it was a bit gross. The shuttle bus driver was awesome in introducing us to the area and flat top mtn. Reception personnel not exactly accommodating. Felt like the reception desk did not want to work there. I expected they would take the initiative of suggesting trips, hikes, etc. All in all we had a great stay and found things on our own!! Would return.

Just the most lovely serene, relaxing environment you could imagine. We love this place so much!

Scenery is first class. Property is old and shows its age. Sad for such a beautiful place, the lodge should be rebuilt to give the area the respect it deserves.

Older rooms but very well maintained. Enjoyed the mile walk around the lake. Restaurant very good.
