We booked last minute whilst touring the area. The location in a quiet village by the river gave us a peaceful night’s rest in a lovely room overlooking the garden and river. The food was the star of the stay. We had three courses from the menu and specials board. What a treat! Hearty yet presented with a touch that evinced a real skill by the chef. Service throughout the stay was excellent. Definitely worth including on your itinerary if you are touring the North Pennines.

We booked to stay at the Elks Head inn after a day's racing at Hexham . We found the accommodation food and drinks to be excellent . The meals at night and breakfast in the morning were freshly cooked and first class . All the staff were very friendly and helpful this was a 5 star experience and when we are back racing at Hexham this is where we will stay . Thanks everybody for a lovely experience

Comfortable room with all required. Staff were attentive and friendly - extremely artistic waitress who made us beautiful place cards for our table. The evening menu and breakfast were beautifully prepared and tasty. Being able to have breakfast a little earlier may be beneficial.

We were delighted with the Elks Head, from the online booking to leaving 3 days later. All the staff were so friendly and had time to chat and then the food,real local produce beautifully cooked and presented. We had to leave early so the owner made sandwiches of our choice and put them in a cool box outside our door.Local food local good beer,good owners leads to a good holiday.Cheers guys

Very pleasant stay. Staff very welcoming and accommodating to requests, comfortable rooms and super breakfast and evening meals. Location of the inn next to river in calm village was also welcomed, yet not too far from Hadrian's Wall, Hexham, etc. Hope to return again one day.

Friendly staff. Dinner and breakfast were tasty and plentiful. Room was comfortable and clean. Outstandingly picturesque setting, walk up to the church and bridge if you can. The drive to Hadrian's Wall was beautiful. Midweek this was a quiet, old fashioned delight.

Came for Sunday Lunch. Wasnt disappointed. Had 2 starters as my mains. Hubby had trad roast chicken. Yorkshire pudding was huge! I decided to try 2 starters as my mains. Potted rabbit n smoked river trout. Sublime. Found a thin bone in the potted rabbit so be careful if ordering. Chutney was nice. The smoked trout came with strawberries n flowers n fennel...n a sort of sauerkraut cabbage. The flavours combined well.

Simple but lovely place to stay. Comfortable bedroom, very friendly and efficient service, decent food. The setting is absolutely beautiful and there are great walks right from the front door. No complaints at all, and I’m not always satisfied with where I stay.

Very Disappointed with the breakfast - tea was cold, service slow, side plates cleared away before finished. The TV in room was not working properly - only had one channel. The room was clean and had a comfortable bed. The evening meal was good.
