I came for surf, not luxury, and this place took care of that, and then some. Steps away from the famous Popoyo break, plus nearby breaks offering all kinds of waves for various levels of surfing, something for everyone ('Beginers Bay' is just 5 to 10 minute walk south). I stayed in one of the private rooms with nice, basic accommodations. Occasional power outages, but hey, I came to surf so no biggie, plus power usually restored soon thereafter. Nonetheless, I sort of got in the habit of charging phone, cameras, etc., at every possible opportunity. In all fairness, I did come at a time with daily rainstorms so power issue most likely better in decent weather. Informal bar and restaurant with a chance to meet local surfers, old surf dogs (like me), and surfers from all the world (Forget Spanish, practice your German!). Surf host / guide Cris very accommodating and helpful, plus a variety of boards to rent. Free breakfast is a delicious hot meal not to be missed. Fishing, boat excursions also offered. Secluded area (a plus for me) requiring 20+ minute beach hike / run to get to the market in Guasacate. Lower tides recommended to cross the river outlet. Conversely, folks at the many accommodations in Guasecate would need to do the same just to surf Popoyos. I prefer the few steps! For those not wanting to hike, my understanding is that a delivery service is available. Ewan M
