Short: Eight Hotel Portofino has everything: thoughtfully appointed rooms, attentive staff, and five-star breakfast and “room service.” Make sure to get an order of foccacia and the roast beef salad to have a lovely dinner in the secluded, magical garden upstairs. Long: ***this is an outstanding hotel, please read whole review***Our driver mistakenly took up to Eight Hotel Parraggi, so I was dismayed when Eight Hotel Portofino not on the water. (There is a shuttle that will take you to beach at Parraggi from the lobby). I was foolish to be disappointed. Our room had a lovely private balcony with comfortable, stylish furniture. So lovely to wake up and walk out to sunshine, birds singing, and the smell of the sea and jasmine. Linda, Sabina, and Andre (and everyone of the staff) took great care of us. The service was perfect: warm and professional. The hotel is just down the hill from trail to San Fruttuoso. The trail entrance is deceptive; it looks like a scrap heap, but you can walk towards San Fruttuoso for outstanding sea views. Also on the same street as Hotel Eight are a gelateria , fruit seller, focaccia and pastry place, a lovely church, and many shops. All are a 5-6 minute walk between Eight Hotel and piazzetta. Highly, recommend. We will be returning. The foccacia an trifle pesto are outstanding. Seriously, the foccacia is light, flaky, cheesy ; it is unlike any foccacia I have ever tasted. Better. It tastes like it feels to be in Portofino on a full-moon weekend. Also, I only practiced Italian for eight weeks before visiting; the staff at front desk very encouraging and helpful.
