Basic hotel. The room is quite spacious. There are no lifts on the island, so there is no lift in the hotel. There are 3 stories. if you cannot climb, best to confirm that you can get 1st floor before you book. The toilet/shower is not very clean, there is grime in between the tiles. The sink tiles have fallen off. The taps look like they havent been scrubbed before. Housekeeping did not sweep the floor for the entire stay. Lots of mozzies, same for everywhere in Sumba. There is no hairdryer. There is no safe. My friends stayed in 2 other hotels, also no safe. May not not common in Sumba. Things kept in locked luggage was safe. Often I have to go to lobby to ask for towels and toilet paper. Breakfast included is local food. Hotel is very close to airport, about 15mins ride, free transport to/fro. Air crew also stay in this hotel. There is no beach. Its a rocky bed and near by mangrove. The hotel is cheaper. It is off the main road, so not so dumpy ride. If you prefer a nicer hotel and willing to pay more, Kambaniru Beach Hotel and Resort (which my friend stayed in) is near by , much more new and modern and rooms better maintained. Kamaniru also does not have a beach.
The Hotel Elvin is an ideal spot for travelers wanting to discover the city. Visitors to Matawai will find that the Hotel Elvin is a fantastic accommodation choice. Waingapu Airport is located approximately 6km away from this hotel. Keeping busy is easy, with Taman Kota Waingapu, Taman Sandalwood Waingapu and Masjid AT TAQWA Kamalaputi all nearby. At the end of a busy day, travelers can unwind and relax in the hotel or go out and enjoy the city.

The hotel looks good from the outside but once you're in the room, things would quickly turn upside down. Got a room which smelt so damp and stale we had to keep the door and windows open for 30 minutes. Then we found out (after we closed the door and windows) that the AC didn't work and only blew air. We were then moved to another room with a better AC, but had possibly the worst hotel bathroom I have seen in my life (and I used to stay at hostels). The mirror, the shower head, and all the taps were rusty, wash basin tiles were broken, and the pipe wasn't even connected to the sewage system. Everything just poured onto the floor. Yuck! Adding to the above, the plug point wasn't secured to the wall and the AC system leaked onto the chair outside. Shocking would be an understatement. If anything good can be said about this hotel, the owner seemed nice (but obviously didn't care enough about their guests' wellbeing) and the breakfast spread would be suitable for an early lunch. Needless to say, I would never return and would strongly discourage anyone from staying here.
Super well located near the city center and well located to visit the surroundings run by Pascal and his extremely kind wife if you wish you can order fish divinely cooked by madame.rapoort excellent quality we spent 1 week thank you to the team at Soon !
