The room could be lovely if someone showed it some love and attention. The room and furniture were really tired and worn, the bed was quite simply horrendous and I woke up with a bite so pretty sure there was something in there with us. Apparently we had booked a superior room so can only wonder what a budget room was like. You can hear every step taken by the room upstairs and can hear multiple toilets / showers. In its current condition would definitely not recommend!

My husband booked the weekend as a surprise for my 60th birthday. We pass through Rhayader frequently on our way to Aberystwyth but have never stayed there. Was booked as a Double Superior Room. The room was suitable as a base, but far from Superior. Parts of the room and bathroom are in desperate need of a deep clean. Bed was comfy, but the room being so close to the road was extremely noisy with passing traffic and the clock chimed every hour right through the night. Our second night was spoiled by the extremely loud visitors in the room directly above us and at 1.30am this was not appropriate. Staff were informed of this. Although we had a good weekend (plenty of pubs and delicious plaice in the Castle Hotel) we wouldn't chose to stay again.

Second floor room. Very tired and warn . Bathroom was a tiny cupboard not suitable for anyone over five feet tall and over eight stone. Traffic noise made sleeping difficult before 2am and again after 5am . Just lacked anything resembling comfort and relaxed. Staff very welcoming and dining in group owned pub very good

Rooms are looking a bit tired now, not spotlessly clean by any means. A few holes in the net curtains, a lot of grime on the bathroom radiator and so on. The location has always been challenging due to being next to the main road, which means not really being able to leave the windows open and with all the motorbikes it is very noisy. Breakfast was superb though.

Location was fantastic. Room clean. Only 4 small drawers for storage and few clothes hangers with a clearance not deep enough for a shirt. £1200 for two double rooms, one with single occupancy, and breakfast not included for 4 nights. Very old creaky building, so a lot of noise when people moved around. Bar and bistro not open, presumably due to staff shortages. Also only one large and one small bath towel and one hand towel. All in all not worth the money charged. Staff friendly and food good. Had to ask for extra shower gel after first day. Shower very noisy and low pressure.

The place is characterful and full of charming antique features, the beams, the stonework etc but in severe need of investment and sympathetic refurbishment. Stayed on first floor and the old floorboards in the room above were *outrageously* loud whenever anyone in room above took a step and they were a large family group, I think, of more than two people who liked to move around a lot! I honestly can’t convey how noisy this was without attaching a recording of it. I’m sure that these boards could be sympathetically renovated and relaid so that they no longer keep guests in the room below awake or actually even wake them up out of sleep every time someone moves. Bathroom: toilet uses a mascerator which makes each flush massively noisy and there’s an old style electric pump shower which was hard to get a constant flow and temperature out of and a part of the trim kept falling off into the bath. Some mould on the sealant needs to be attended to in the corner. Entrance on ground floor: carpet a bit past its best days - a little dirty. Smell of vape from room by entrance door quite strong and ingrained. Presumably a permanent tenant / staff member in there with a strong vape habit.
