Quick summary: lovely hotel that supports eco-friendly practices. Very comfortable bed, quiet room. Location is close to everything but removed from crowds, good for touring the area. Friendly, helpful, professional staff. We stayed 4 nights here during our visit to the Dordogne area. The hotel sits on top of the medieval village, but there is an easy walk to the elevator that can take visitors up and down to town, at a nominal charge. The staff are very helpful with suggestions, lots of travel brochures, directions, etc. We stayed in the “exclusive double room” Vitalie, which was very comfortable with a large king bed. This room is on the ground floor and opens to the lovely garden in back. There is also a small sofa, cocktail table, large screen TV, coffee/tea maker (no cream/milk.). Individually controlled HVAC works very well. The Wi-Fi drops out at times, but I’m not sure if that is a function of the hotel or the area. The bathroom has a combined tub/shower with a very high rim (18” high or so.). I love to relax in a bath at the end of the day, but I am 5’4”, and getting into the tub (or taking a shower) was a challenge. I could either do a high kick over the rim and a few gymnastics moves, or sit of the edge of the tub and swing my legs in. Either way, it was a bit of a safety concern as there are no grab bars. Even my shower-preferred husband wished there were grab bars. Hand soap and shampoo/shower gel provided, I.e. bring your own body lotion, if you use it. It also always annoys me when the shampoo/shower gel is wall-mounted about 4 feet from the floor, I.e. too high for anyone sitting in the tub to reach without standing up and down a few times…with wet, soapy hands on porcelain…with no grab bars… The breakfast is wonderful. It is extensive buffet of pastries, breads, cereals, meats, cheeses, scrambled eggs in a buffet dish, yogurt, fresh fruits and juices. Guests get their own coffee by the cup, which is very good, but sometimes results in a waiting line at busy times. Easy parking. Easy walk to a number of good restaurants on top of the village - no great need to go down the cliff. There used to be a nice swimming pool, but we did not get a chance to use it. The hotel has a small selection of lovely gift items for sale, e.g. soaps, tote, etc. So why only 4 dots out of 5? Mostly it’s about the bathroom, but in a perfect world it would be easier to find an outlet for your digital devices. You can unplug the coffee maker, or unplug a lamp under a nightable, but that’s about it. Also: the furniture is without drawers anywhere, which means you are alway working out of your suitcase, save for a few hanging items. This gets old. I really wish there had been a small drawer in the nightstand to catch the day’s odds-and-ends, eg digital cords, watch, adapter plug, Kleenex, etc. , in addition to reading material and a glass of water usually on top. The nightstand was kind of a pileup mess every night. I also lo
