Le Clos Normand

I find it hard to give an overall rating to this hotel. My wife tells me to "be positive" so let's start with the positives. There is free parking right outside and the hotel leads directly onto the promenade, as shown in the picture. Vincent, whose English is excellent, gave us a very good welcome and there is a lift to the upper floors. Our sea view room gave us a lovely 'panoramique' view of the ocean and the free wifi worked well. For those interested in WW11 the beach was 'Juno Beach' in the Normandy landings and there are plenty of memorials and reminders of those dark days; there is even a German gun emplacement complete with gun on the promenade. However; the room was quite small and was so simply furnished and decorated as to be austere; it felt like a student flat. The wardrobe was fitted with folding doors that were not of the best quality, the bathroom had been refurbished and had 2 wash basins, side by side, which left almost no space to use the toilet. The bath had a shower head over but no shower screen or curtain. Given it's positives the hotel offers good value but, for us, the negatives outweigh the positives and we wouldn't recommend staying here.

From when we made our phone call to confirm our reservation for dinner up to our arrival and welcome at Reception, we experienced Sophie’s energy and delight in the wonderful hotel she has established. Both somehow set the tone for everything we experienced at Le Clos Normand. The beautiful grounds, our room, superb bed linen and wonderfully comfortable bed as well as the most fabulous meal in the charming restaurant all were perfect. Add to that all the staff who seem to share Sophie’s own energy and pleasure in making guests so welcome, including our waiter in the restaurant, though clearly very knowledgeable about both food and wine, advised us generously without any pretension. He was professional, amusing and relaxed. In all the very many years we have been coming to France, it has been a challenge to find somewhere as lovely to stay near one of the northern ports. We will definitely be back – perhaps for a weekend as well as when we travel further south. Le Clos Normand is exceptional and we have huge admiration for Sophie in all she has achieved.

The check in and out process was pleasant and simple. The hotel was updated, spacious and staff was friendly. It was a quiet stay, windows just need to be open because there is no air conditioning.

We stayed here with family for one week in August. This is a lovely little place. Everything is very clean and well organised, and the staff is helpful and friendly. The rooms seem to be recently renovated and clean. The hotel is situated at the beach front and the beach itself is good for kids as it gets deeper very gradually. Despite the high season the town was not crowded, so it was a relaxing esperience. The wifi works well in the rooms and is fast enough. In the common places it is quite slow.

The hotel has a nice location and staff overall is nice except the owner who was rude because we had some delay for check out. It was not necessary to be so rude and it really wasted our stay despite the overall nice hotel.

Really enjoyed our trip. Nice hotel right next to the beach.

Excellent Hotel, great staff, delicious food, awesome view, extremely comfortable rooms, amazing value, thank you for a wonderful stay, see you next year, perfect for visiting d day beaches, Beautiful area. I couldn’t recommend this hotel enough.

Très bon hôtel et restaurant bistronomique super agréable. Très bien placé en front de mer. Accueil sympathique. Les couverts sont à revoir car ternie par le lave vaisselle. Bonne literie. Week-end famille, chambre pour 4pers. Merci et courage aux nouveaux propriétaires.

Tout avait pourtant bien commencé : accueil souriant, salle joliment re décorée par le nouveau propriétaire, mise en bouche, très honnête chardonnay en carafe… Las ! L’arrivée du FISH & Chips revisité nous a fait déchanter : une sorte de boule de purée de poisson blanc entourée de chapelure et archi-frite ! Ma femme en a tiré deux bouchées… très difficiles à digérer qui plus est ! Il est vrai qu’hier soir 5 juin, veille des commémorations du 80eme anniversaire la salle était comble et la cuisine sans doute débordée. Mais j’imagine la consternation des clients anglais.. Au bénéfice du doute nous donnerons une seconde chance au Clos Normand car Saint Aubin mériterait bien une table de qualité
