First time in Guernsey. Like time travelling to a world where there was no litter no graffiti no potholes no grumpy people, and hotels like the OGH existed. What a beautiful hotel. The interior suitably old-fashioned, but stylish and lovingly maintained. Cosy lounge, with a fire. Our room was comfortable, huge bed. A thoughtful touch is that the television sound cannot be turned up too high, so no noise from next door. Some rooms have a bath. Room 220 is particularly good if you want to be away from occasional street noise, and has a view of the harbour, but no bath. The staff... what can one say. What a nice bunch of friendly, highly professional people, not least the GM who is very visible and doesn't need a GM badge to keep things ticking along. The breakfast buffet is both decorative and dangerous. Take an elastic belt! Dinner, we ate in every evening and were never disappointed, both in the bistro and the curry room where this curry newbie enjoyed a mild but very tasty meal. Unlike some restaurants where the emphasis is on presentation, here one has both the presentation and the quantity. Take an elastic belt! Oh, I already said that. It was our 50th wedding anniversary. We were made to feel quite special, culminating in a surprise celebration cake one evening. All in all, hard to imagine a better holiday or a better place to stay.
