Hotel California Garden

After reading reviews I was a little apprehensive but I needn’t have worried, the hotel was lovely. Huge room overlooking the pool area, small balcony too. Excellent air conditioning, WiFi very touch and go at times. The hotel is spotlessly clean and couldn’t fault the pool area, just a shame it was so cold for a dip. Downsides, no pool towels, no kettle, no fridge, no safe etc.. Plenty of bars, restaurants and bus stops close by there’s also a supermarket opposite for essentials. Five minutes walk from the beach area and close to plaza europa. Really nice selection of food especially breakfast, altho some of the dinner options were a little strange and some didn’t belong together at all! Super friendly restaurant staff, really looked after me as a solo traveler too. I’d definitely return here again.

Just arrived home today after staying here for 2 weeks. The hotel itself is lovely, modern and clean and the staff were very friendly we thought. The cleaners came to our room at the same time every day and even pulled the beds out of the way to clean underneath. The food isn’t great and can get a little repetitive, we were full board but ate out quite a lot. The entertainment team for the children were absolutely amazing! Mini club twice a day along with games in between. Mini disco, bingo, karaoke and live entertainment in the evenings. Alvaro, Vera and Lucas from the animation team were fantastic with my son Owen and really helped him enjoy his holiday! The location of the hotel is great too, close to shops, restaurants and bars etc. and only a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. I would definitely be happy to stay here again but would go bed and breakfast.

We originally had mixed feelings about this hotel due to the reviews we had read. But we decided to wait and make up our own minds when we got there. We needn't have worried as when we arrived we were pleasantly surprised. The hotel was clean, the air con worked, the mattresses on the bed were well protected, in a zip protected cover and then a mattress protector too. Other than a trim being broken on the TV stand the room was perfectly fine, beds were comfy, there was no fridge u had to pay for this and it wasnt even just a deposit and same with the safe. The maids were in cleaning our room and changing towels everyday and we're friendly, all the staff were friendly. The pool area was immaculately clean and sunloungers were available everyday and the pool and pool area was cleaned every morning, the pool toilets were cleaned on a regular basis everyday, the drinks at the bar were cheap, 3 euros for a bacardi breezer and €3.80 for 2 cokes. The entertainment for adults was not great but the kids loved it, and there was entertainment on every evening. The food was good but as like every hotel buffet was all very repetitive, so could definitely do with different alternatives for breakfast and dinner, but there was always something for u to choose from.All in all we had a great week here and would return if we ever come back to salou.

AVOID ! AVOID ! AVOID ! Pillow just the 1 was like a breeze block in a cover, staff are rude, if you can avoid them, then try to do so. Wifi is hit a miss, most of time dosent work. Superiour double + 1 with balcony 🤣 Was a single room with balcony, with 3 beds rammed in, no room swing a cat. Dont dare try carry your own water bottle anywere on site as they will try to remove this from you. If you dont like pork or fish then tuff thats all they have, The spa reminds me of blow and go in the series benidorm, open when ever it wants the hotel have no control over it, reception desk said to me "well it was open last year, not seen anyone this year". The pools are alright though it shuts at about half 6 in summer goes dark around 8. Entertainment wise if they decide to do any, 7 day stay 2 nights of entertainment thats all they had on, was shocking at best, the music vol level was ok but by christ if they use a mic it will certainly blow your head off, supprised it didnt blow the windows out i had to leave and go bed. If your at the back overlooking the pools, beware of the club outside the hotel, half 5 am the place is still going strong with police attending fights to the rear several times. Overall just AVOID the place. 3 star rubbish ! Needs to be re-evaluated, better days stays at a 0 star b & b in blackpool.

Sadly this hotel was awful.. only thing decent was the pools.. Staff are rude and don't want to help if its needed... one of the 2 rooms we had was flooded out on are 2nd night and the electric blew the reception staff didn't want to do anything about it and expected 2 elderly lady's to cope in the dark with wet floors at almost 11pm.. I had to argue with staff about how dangerous this was.. finally got a new room at midnight but then they refused to move the fridge which we had to pay for and it took 4 days of asking for it moved or a refund they only agreed to move it the night be4 we came home which was a waste of time and the tui rep managed to get the refund... the food was awful bland and watery... very sad as we love salou but I wouldn't recommend this hotel at all

This hotel is nice enough if you can get a reasonable price to stay there. It is located about a 5/10 minute walk from both the beach and main eating areas in Salou, which we didn't mind. There is a nightclub next door which was only open Fri/Sat. It was noisy, which I did not mind but could be a problem for others. The rooms are fine, could have been a bit cleaner but similar to most hotels as the staff probably do not have enough time inbetween guests to clean as thoroughly as they should. Beds were reasonably comfortable. However the bedding is not sufficient. There is no adjustable heating in the room and the first night was very cold. There were blankets in the cupboard, but I was not confident they were washed inbetween guests so I slept in a jumper, covered in beach towels, luckily the weather picked up and the room was quite warm for the rest of the week. No fridge in the room, which would have been useful, or kettle which we would not use but others may. There was also a charge for the safe, which I think should be included. Pool area was nice, plenty of beds but it may not be the case when at full capacity. There is a well equipped gym which we had intended to use. However, there is a charge which I don't recall reading about prior to arrival. This put me off as it should be included. Bar area was nice enough, drinks OK. Entertainment was poor, we sat and watched one singer, who was not bad but very dated singing songs from decades ago. Food was not great. Buffet style, I didn't mind it too much but my partner did not enjoy it at all, resulting in us eating out for both breakfast and dinner for 3 days, which was an unexpected expense. It does also get very busy and some guests can be rude. Staff were nice enough and checkin was quick and easy. All in all I would stay here again if the price was right. 3 stars seems fair. I would recommend Linda's cafe nearby for breakfasts, tasty cheap and friendly staff. Also El Toro steakhouse and spaghetti house italian.

Awful from the start. After arriving and being given direction to our room in a second building, we were looking forward to relaxing before dinner. Unfortunately this was not the case. The room we were given absolutely stunk of smoke it was so overwhelming even just being in for a few minutes. I immediately went to reception and explained and asked for another room which I was rudely told no and a cleaner would come and air the room. 1hr later still no cleaner so I asked again to be moved as we couldn't possibly sleep in that room. Still the response was no. I asked the manager or a member of staff to come to the room with me to inspect it but they would not. After nearly 2hrs we were told the cleaner had been. We went to go back to the room and it was no better they had just sprayed air freshener. Nearly 3hrs of waiting in reception and we were finally given a different room. I reached out to Jet 2 and the rep, who did contact the hotel but they denied the whole thing. I didn’t want to waste anymore time on our holiday so didn’t complain further but I would not recommend this hotel. Staff are rude and dismissive. Food was local and nice to start but very repetitive, although we were half board we ate out a lot. I would never stay at this hotel again and I would certainly not recommend. Not welcoming at all. I would put this as a max 2 star.

Awful hotel the food is inedible cold and greasy the staff are rude and several guests had their bags stolen. The only positive was the location being not far from the centre but i wouldnt stay here again even if they paid me. Should be downgraded to a 1*

Avoid at all costs. Still currently here (7 nights) the food is terrible (half board) i barely ate. Don't come here if you want to sleep. If you get a room over looking the pool you wont sleep. There's a nightclub next door called flashback, and it's one of the most popular in Salou. It opens at 12.30am and doesn't close until 6.30am. All you will hear in your room is bassy dance music and people screaming. I had to buy ear plugs, have the radio on my phone, and drink excessively to be able to sleep. This place is hell.
