We had a lovely time at Mangeira. Though the room was not large, it was clean and comfortable and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The property is gated and feels safe and secure. It was a short walk to the historic Pelhourinho and Mercado, although anyone with limited mobility would have a difficult time navigating the sharp slope down and then up again to get there. The pool was nice to come back to after a day at Carnaval, and the poolside bar featured reasonable drinks and delicious caipirinhas. Friends staying at other pousadas in the neighborhood were jealous of this beautiful property and amazing view of town. Breakfast was varied and tasty. My only hesitation about staying here again during the week of Carnaval is that the convenience of staying so close to the Pelourinho meant that loud music could be heard day and night- a great party a**osphere for Carnaval, but not good for sleeping. Note: I have been here in January also, when the town is quieter, and there is a much more serene a**osphere at that time. Just know what you are getting into during Carnaval! There was even a fun Carnaval party here for guests featuring a pool party and live music. I would definitely come back to stay at this wonderful pousada.
