When my boyfriend and I landed in Mexico, we were bombarded just trying to leave the airport. Once through all the craziness, we were taken to our rental car, which was a total scam (DO NOT USE AMERICAN CAR RENTAL (ACR)). Won't allow you to use your own insurance so they lure you in with an unbelievably good deal and then bait and switch you. Once at the hotel, it was quite frustrating checking in. I had already paid for accommodations almost 2+ months in advance, but they just seemed to be taking their sweet time. We waited at least 30min to an hour, while at least 2 families that came AFTER us were served and checked in. We were frustrated from the long flight and at the rudeness of some fellow passengers. I wish I remembered his name. Rodrigo I believe it was? He has spikey hair (younger guy) and was able to communicate the best with us. Anyways, we FINALLY got to the room. While I wasn't very excited about walking up and down stairs, the view from the third floor over the golf course was actually pretty nice. We were actually really close to the pool, front desk and hotel restaurant. Our bags were brought up by an older gentleman. I tipped him and sent him on his way. Apparently, just a day or two before, Mexico had a flood come through. The hotel is all stone - like a Spanish Villa style. We were deciding if we needed a drink or nap as I laid on the bed. Much to my surprise it was SOAKED. We went back down to the front desk and we were TOLD they were going to move us. So we went down to the pool bar (Nellie makes a great margarita) and asked if they would come let us know when we were good to go to whatever room they put us in. An hour went by and still nothing. At the front desk we were informed we were good to go back. To the same room. Instead of moving us, they just switched the sheets on a wet mattress. So of course the new sheets ARE WET TOO. We were both very upset by this but just took the room...we were almost to the point of changing flights and going back home. There were dead roaches under the cabinet in this little tiny kitchen they give you. There wasn't even a SPATULA to flip eggs! I can't give it a once star because the room was the worst thing. I'm just upset I had to pay $200 for "accommodations" just so they could put me on a wet mattress for a week.
