This place is almost really amazing. The location and structure are hard to beat. The building itself is well constructed, thoughtfully designed, and in a great spot on a high cliff overlooking the beach and bay. The rooms are large, nicely equipped, and very clean. Each room has a very private balcony, and many rooms on the main floor also have individual plunge pools(albeit with less privacy than the balconies). The balcony doors slide wide open and provide the feeling of having almost the whole wall open to the sea. There are a few mosquitos at dusk, but we slept with the doors open every night without issue. There were also whales to be seen every day. The bed was comfortable, and the sheets and towels were both comfortable and of high quality. There is AC in every room, as well as a refrigerator and fan. The hot water had moments of glory, but was mostly squarely in the ‘warm’ category. I mentioned this to the management, and he seemed both surprised and interested. However, nothing much changed. The restaurant serves good food all day and into the night. The view from the upstairs is exceptional, although food is also served next to the pool, and can be delivered to your room. The fajitas with arrachera and fish ceviche were stand outs on the menu. The pizza was also quite good. The beach immediately in front of the hotel is rocky, and minimally accessible. However, a 2 minute walk down the hill takes you to a lovely swimmable white sand beach. The hotel typically sets up chairs down there, and can also provide beach umbrellas. They can also give rides up and down the hill in an ATV. The main infinity pool is spectacularly located, and faces up to a swim up bar. One downside to the design is that there aren’t many options to sit around the pool, and there is limited shade during the day. Thee There is a lot of space nearby, but it isn’t well stocked with chairs or shade. The roof top is finished and includes another infinity pool and a sun-deck. It was vacant any time we visited. The breeze was great up there, but there is no shade, so the heat gets a bit intense. We arrived on Christmas day, and the service was generally sub-par. The next day was Sunday, but things improved marginally. On Monday morning, things really perked up in both the hotel and restaurant. The guys at the front desk were able to help with arranging taxis, COVID testing on-site, and beach chairs. The local area is somewhat remote at the end of a dirt road. There is a collection of privately owned homes, and two small hotels with excellent restaurants. The nearest shopping of any kind is in small bodegas in the village of Cuatunalco which is about a 30 minute walk away. It is small, isolated, and quiet. Huatulco and La Cruzitas were about 40-50 minutes away by taxi, and the airport is 35 minutes away. There are a few taxis based in Cuatunalco, and the hotel will contact them to come when needed.
