Hotel Alfonso IX

We imagined a 4 Star would mean a bit of luxury , we were wrong - our room was very dated and basic - the aircon clicks in and out , we didn’t have a good night - no kettle or water in the room - The breakfast was ok , it was buffet style no staff acknowledged us . We were disappointed

The room at this hotel was okay, but the service at this hotel was terrible. This was one of our stops on the Camino, and we stayed three nights because my wife had hurt her knee and needed to get treatment. We had dinner included here as well as breakfast. We only ended up having one of the dinners because the service in the restaurant was so awful. This was a general theme throughout the hotel. On the second night, we went for dinner and were seated right away. Within 30 seconds, the waitress came to take our order. We asked for water and said we would look at the menu and would be ready to order when she brought the water. We never saw her again! We waited 45 minutes. There was another waiter who kept walking past. Every time he walked past, he would say that his colleague would be here momentarily. We asked him to take our order and he said his colleague would be right here. Meanwhile, we saw other couples coming into the restaurant and being seated and getting water and getting their orders taken, by the other waiter. We left after 45 minutes. We did not have water and our order had not been taken. We went to the pizza parlor across the parking lot were seated and served within 20 minutes. The pizza was quite good. We had a similar experience at the outdoor seating for the bar. There were at least 20 people out there, enjoying the sun and having drinks. Anytime anyone needed a drink, they had to go get the waitress inside at the bar. On the third night, we did not bother to go to the restaurant. I tried three times to talk to the front desk about the service, but every time the front desk person was on the phone. I waited 10 minutes each time. The TV in this hotel does not have a single English Channel, and the streaming services were disabled. If you stop in Sarria on the Camino, and most people do, skip this hotel and stay in one of the highly rated albergues. This hotel is terrible. We were booked at another Alfonso hotel in Seville after the trip and rebooked in a different hotel after this experience.

The positives outweighed by huge negatives. I checked in staff was courteous, room was fine, what one expects from a 3 star hotel, hotel great location. However, the A/C didn’t work, so only alternative was to leave window -open and let flies in. However, there was huge festival with loud music until 4am! So I started the Camino with 2 hours of sleep. If I closed the window I sweated, if opened the music was blasting. Worst hotel experience in last 30 yrs. At 5am after coming down to reception, they moved rooms, but it was to little to late. Could have solved problem by moving me to room on other side of hotel. Staff is nice but lacks energy and can do spirit.

A very good place to stay with all facilities needed. Room was spacious, bed comfy, wifi worked well and the batch was fine. Breakfast was good and so was the cafeteria but rather noisy when we were there (could have been a coincidence). Spotlessly clean. Recommend.

-Great location in the centers of town and is built on a scenic riverfront -Standard rooms and facilities -The decor was a bit dated decor and the view from my room was of an unused gravelled terrace -pretty good breakfast spread -Helpful receptionist and staff -Excellent vegetarian dinner option at its in-house restaurant

I really can't fault this place. Far exceeds my expectations, and a wonderful way to start the Camino. Clean, well equipped room, really spacious with a lovely bathroom. The bar terrace looks out over the river. Breakfast was a good selection. All in all, really good value for money.

hotel is simple but dinner at the hotel restaurant was very good. A generous lasagne and a broiled hake fish in a bowl with browned butter topped with a head-on prawn. didnt expect to get that in Sarria. Nothing to add to other reviews, hotel was simple but room was clean. All we needed was a place to lay our head

Great way to start the Camino! Close to grocery store. Great dinner and breakfast. Rooms clean and comfy. Lovely location and restaurant. Helpful front desk. Pilgrims menu was excellent for dinner. Wine was nice. Breakfast tortillas were warm and yummy.

Dinner good . Monkfish and prawn skewers . Staff not at all friendly . Room looked good but no sound proofing. Very poor sleep. Breakfast was carnage . The early Camino leavers had stripped the place like locusts. No food. No cleared tables. Majorly understaffed. Managed to get a girl ar reception to sort us a clean table and some food.
