Hotel Due Mari is a 'classic' hotel from the timeless age of great service, great food, helpful and professional staff (front desk, restaurant, pool). It's the type of place you leave your key at reception when you go out, and the staff know who you are. They speak perfect English and reliably can organize cars and so forth. I told my daughters who were with us, "Enjoy this classic hotel as it's a rarity these days". We were a party with three rooms for four nights and I stayed in a fourth floor sea view room which had an excellent view. (A/C perfect, rooms always made up promptly, mini bar, internet easy). Rooms and bathrooms are small, which is of 'the age' when people were smaller. The shower was challenging! Breakfast was excellent with fresh eggs/bacon plus the full Euro spread. We had lunch once at the hotel and it was also top tier. The swimming pool area is an oasis surrounded by the town. Drink service at the pool is available late afternoon. The pool area was quiet and we spent hours there each day after our outings. The pool attendant was excellent, as was the server. Thank you for being so helpful. Also, free bikes to borrow which I did use. There is a nice bike path along the beach front. The location of the hotel is amazing. A public beach is literally 100 meters from the front door of the hotel. The area is surrounded by good restaurants/bars on the water and on the tourist street. There is ITALIAN CHARM EVERYWHERE. SECRET TIP. On the 5th floor of the main building (above reception) is a terrace with 360 views of Sestri Levante waterfront. Take the elevator to the fourth floor and use the 'secret' staircase to the terrace. It is great and we had 'happy hour' up there a few times including a take out pizza night. Hardly anyone used the terrace when we were there so let's keep it a secret okay? check out my pictures. Sestri Levanti location: the town is outside the Cinque Terre (five clifftop villages connected by hiking trails) dedicated trainline/ferry service so you must take a connecting train to Monterossa to visit Cinque Terre (20 mins train). That's the disadvantage. The advantage is Sestri Levanti is not over-run with too many tourists. In comparison Cinque Terre villages had an INSANE amount of tourists. In fact, in Sestri Levante over five days I never saw an American at the hotel or in town. Mostly Italian tourists and a splattering of Brits which explains why Hotel Due Marie got about two reviews a year on Tripadvisor over the last few years. Punchline: Sestri Levante is a great location and the hotel is in a great location in the Sestri Levante. I've been fortunate to have travelled and living abroad a fair bit from a very young age. I've stayed in crappy youth hostels and stayed at fancy hotels such as the Carleton in Cannes France and Fairmont Miramar Santa Monica for work. I have to say, in my experience, Hotel Due Mari was a real gem and a place of many fond memories. I'd go back in a heartbeat. Stay several
