Royal York & Faulkner Hotel

Went on A Palmer Coach holiday. Excellent. Judith was a good tour person. Coach was cold and draughty at the back sometimes. Andy turned the heating up but then it was too warm at the front. At the hotel, we were gifted a front sea view room which we liked. Although it was a small shower with no bath we enjoyed watching the majestic sea and seagulls, people.. Sun shone on the Thursday. We were there for 5 days and only went on one of the trips out to the river Exe on a cruise and afterwards, Exeter. That day was a dark rainy washout but I'm sure it would have been far more pleasant on a sunny day to go cruising on the River Exe. The staff on board were cheery, informative and friendly. We stayed in Sidmouth for the next 2 days. The hotel is very old but we loved the quirkiness of it. It featured 2 very old grandfather clocks which chime on the quarter hour. The staff are superb. Changed and cleaned the rooms if you want them to every day, beds comfy. Food absolutely fantastic, so many choices 5 courses including coffee. Served at the table with efficiency and speed. Breakfast the same. Plenty of choice. Juice, cereal, porridge with honey, cooked breakfast, toast, jam. Yummy. We were on the 3rd floor. The lift is old too but does the job. Floors are bumpy, up and down, round corners to get to no 322. Very funny. The room numbers changed from 32 to 312. I wonder why?? Weird. The entertainment could have done with being more entertaining. Enjoyed quiz night. It was fun and got everyone in groups together. We would definitely go back to this hotel and highly recommend it.

The staff were wonderful, so polite and caring. The hotel caters for an older clientele and everyone was very thoughtful and helpful. The room was big, comfy and the shower was easy to use with plenty of hot water. The food was lovely

Very comfortable room and lounges. Very warm welcome. Excellent food and service. nothing is too much trouble and personal requirements are catered to. We visit 2-3 times a year and have never been disappointed. Would recommend this hotel to anyone.

5th visit. Always a warm welcome, excellent food well cooked and presented by very smartly dressed staff. My Single room was warm, clean, tidy and contained everything for a comfy stay. Good bed mattress with decent pillows( always a weak point), fluffy towels and good quality toiletries. A fantastic location in this slightly laid back town but accessible for the promenade walks, the shops and 5 mins to the small bus station( to Exeter, Seaton, Donkey Sanctuary etc). The independent Fields Department Store is a must .

We last stayed here in 2019 with friends & we returned again last Friday to spend three nights with our friends. Again we were made very welcome & had a comfortable sea view room. The staff were pleasant, friendly & attentive along with there being a very good variety of food to choose from which was well presented & delicious to eat. A pleasant experience yet again & good value for money.

Our third visit, much enjoyed as before. Spacious and very comfortable room overlooking the sea. Enjoyed the meals, traditionally served. Comfortable bar and lounges, restfully and imaginatively decorated. Staff helpful and friendly.

Nice, quiet and clean hotel. That sadly seems to cater for the older generation more. Lovely sea view room which was dated but well kept nonetheless. Restaurant food was good but service felt a little rushed guess they are used to guests going to bed early. Everywhere was very clean and well presented. Hotel is obviously good for who they may serve but could be its downfall maybe. Perfect location to enjoy sidmouth.

My favourite hotel experience of all time, the service and staff make this hotel a cut above the rest. Beachfront location in a clean and well run traditional hotel. Our room was small but perfectly serviceable. Lounge areas overlooking the sea as well as the restaurant a bonus and the hotel is well maintained and decorated throughout although some may say old fashioned - it is a regency hotel would be my response! The food was excellent both days and full silver service - such a treat. The spring offer included dinner and was amazing value for money.

The Royal York is a wonderful, slightly old world hotel internal condition is beautiful and decoration etc up to date. Service is efficient,food excellent. We stayed in a Seaview room worth the extra as waking up to the sea crashing on the pebble beach is special. Don't miss this hotel !! Dave and Sue H
