Font Neuve

We had two weeks here in August 2023. I'll start with the good: The location and setting are great. It's near a town, and very near a large supermarket and a great local produce shop. The estate is set among hills and despite being only a few minutes from town is extremely quiet and peaceful - it feels remote but isn't. Lots to do nearby. There is lots of space and great amenities for kids, like a trampoline and table tennis. The pool is lovely. The hosts are very friendly and helpful. The living room and kitchen were nice. The living room was more comfortable than many holiday places we have stayed in. Bedrooms were OK and the bathroom was fine. Not exactly amazing but certainly nothing to complain about. The bad: The kitchen was the worst-equipped kitchen I've ever stayed in. We ended up buying: a large spoon for cooking a spatula (there was a wooden one - not great for frying eggs) a sieve a vegetable peeler 2 bowls for food prep/serving (there were 4 small dessert bowls and a large salad bowl) a salad spinner (maybe not 100% necessary but on a summer holiday we definitely eat salad and I am sure others do too) a toaster an oven glove a carafe ice trays Plus a few other items The owners will do laundry for you, which is nice - but they charge. There are no other laundry facilities on site. The setting is lovely but they could have done more with the grounds. There is a lot of lawn; plenty of space for eg a wildflower meadow (which would not only be beautiful but need less maintenance) The bathroom is accessed via the second bedroom, with a curtain closing the bedroom off. OK for our son, who is a heavy sleeper, but might be an issue for light sleepers. None of the issues were major but it feels that with a bit more attention to detail a very nice place could easily become very good indeed. We considered coming back (if we are allowed after the owners read this!) as the pluses are very significant, but there were just too many slight drawbacks that all added up. On the flip side, the kitchen is now better equipped!
