B&B Downham Hall

We had our wedding reception at Downham Hall in September and it was the most perfect day! The venue is so picturesque and having the wedding breakfast in the marquee was the best setting, with views looking out onto the pond and grounds just outside. From the moment we arrived the staff couldn't do enough for us and they accomodated every request we had without question, meaning we could enjoy our day completely without any worries. Debra (the wedding co-ordinator) was amazing, she helped plan the day and made sure we got everything we wanted, even ordering in Guinness for the night! In the lead up to the wedding we visited a few times for dinner and lunch, and Christina and Andrew would always say hello and ask if we were excited for the wedding, which was a nice personal touch and showed how much they cared. The food at Downham Hall is always amazing, our favourite was the Amalfi lemon tart! They accomodated for all the food allergies and intolerances in our wedding party, i can't praise the chef highly enough! Downham Hall is an amazing venue for any event, or just for a nice dinner out or afternoon tea, they can do it all! We can't recommend them enough.

We went for afternoon tea and had a very nice table with a nice view. The service was good and the tea was just as you would expect. The sandwiches were tasty and the scones were very nice. I’m not a fan of the little cakes at all but I think it was just me so don’t be put off by that. We hope to go back for Sunday lunch very soon.

A very charming efficiently and friendly experience. There is absolutely nothing to mention. Totally enjoyable overnight stay with dinner and breakfast. The Hotel boasts cleanliness eye for detail and above all service that can be quite unique in today's world. Thank you to you all and Christine.

Had breakfast at Downham Hall. Service was slow and breakfast was average including burnt bacon! When we mentioned the service and burnt bacon we were just told that they were short staffed. The staff looked stressed and is not something that should have rubbed off on the customers.

My husband recently celebrated his 80th Birthday at Downham Hall with afternoon tea for 33 family and friends. The staff were friendly but unobtrusive. The venue was lovely with a beautiful room and lovely gardens where we wandered after the tea. All of our guests loved the atmosphere and friendliness of the afternoon and we too really enjoyed ourselves. Thank you Downham Hall.

Overnight stay to visit family in Great Burstead. Beautiful place in lovely surroundings. Great breakfast.

Lovely little find, needed an overnight stay whilst visiting the area for a family funeral. Very welcoming staff, rooms are well equipped, spotlessly clean, comfortable bed, everything you need was in your room. Excellent breakfast and the most helpful pleasant friendly staff. Such good value for money in this small friendly hotel. Definitely recommend 100%

A wonderful hotel in a lovely part of Essex. Fantastic views, lovely premises. Bed a bit too soft for my liking, but still comfortable. The owners and staff have worked hard to reach and maintain the high standard of service. We will be visiting again.
