Devonshire Arms

I think I saw this billed as a 3 Star hotel, but it easily exceeds that. The room was clean and fresh, with everything looking almost new. It was also equipped with all the basics you need and was well sized and very comfortable. The restaurant is excellent - great food made with local ingredients and decent wines. This is an excellent base for this area, and a hotel I want to return to.

We went for a Sunday lunch and I must say I was very disapointed! We had 2 starters and the Sunday roast, my starter was still frozen which was very disappointing as the little I had was lovely.. you would have thought after mention it twice that it would have been taken off the bill!? But no! The main lunch was all in all ok, the beef was lovely but the potatoes where like what you can buy frozen in a supermarket.. I wouldn’t have minded but we did pay £74 for two with one drink! For that price surely I can have defrosted starters and proper potatoes?

For the last few years we have been staying at The Devonshire Arms every other week. It has always been wonderful. Lovely rooms, efficient and attentive staff and great food. It has been our home from home and we could not have been treated better. We no longer have to be in Somerset every other week and will miss our stays there enormously.

My wife and I stayed here on the 14th Nov 23 . Arrived 6.30 pm and were made most welcome . The room was massive, cosy ,clean and warm . We had an evening meal in the resturant . This was amazing, we had pate and garlic mushrooms starter then Belly pork and my wife had the hake dish . all was delicious . The belly pork was the best I had ever had almost solid tender meat and crispy crackling . very well presented . we had a good night sleep , dispite being next to the road it was not busy until the morning and even then it was not that noisy . We had a lovley english fry up and left soon after a chat with the owner about the history of the place ., thank you to all the staff for making our stay so delightful. Glenn & Della .

We stumbled upon this pub and went in for lunch, it was excellent, so good we went back for Sunday lunch and we weren’t disappointed! The food was excellent, beautifully presented and super delicious, absolute quality through and through, all really impressive! The ambience was just right too, not over the top in your face, but impressively on the ball, all the staff are a delight and an absolute credit to the owners!! We couldn’t find fault and we will be back for sure. Credit we’re credit is due, this place is run amazingly and it shows! Thank you for two amazing dining experiences!!

We arrived at 2pm on a beautiful day and had lunch outside,food was delicious and staff very nice,checked in after lunch into one of their 2 Deluxe rooms ,room very nice ,dinner in the evening was really enjoyable We booked dinner when we reserved our room which was just as well since they were fully booked for dinner. Slept really well comfy bed ,plumbing in bathroom really let it down,shower was pathetic and no towel rails at all,the only shelf was minuscule so ended up with our wash bags on the floor. Would it stop us coming back ? No it was very enjoyable but please sort your bathrooms out.

1 star for the lovely outdoor seating area and another for the nice dessert but my main meal was one of the worst things I've eaten in a long time. I don't normally eat here as the menu is very unappealing to a vegetarian, but I was in a family group so had no choice. The vegetarian option was a root vegetable risotto. A large pile of rice and a small number of bits of parsnip and carrot plus a few other token veggies. Taking the mickey I think for £19. It is 2023, lots of people are veggie now or eat less meat, recipe box companies offer great innovative veggie recipes so most veggies and vegans are used to eating far nicer things at home than was on offer here.

Lunch for four and I had forgotten how good the food here is. We were early on a Wednesday with a wheelchair and a couple of small dogs, and the staff couldn't have been more welcoming. We felt cosseted without any intrusion at all. The menu covered the bases from beautifully done standard dishes to a bit more out of the ordinary. Between us we had a ploughman's, a pulled beef burger with seriously fabulous chips, a butternut squash and pine nut risotto which was about as good as a good risotto can get - if not better, and my confit duck leg with mashed potato and interesting vegetables, which was just perfect. Food like this doesn't happen by accident - it means there's someone both talented and dedicated in the kitchen. They have our thanks. I can't remember when I ate this well...it's been far too long. We will be back.
