Summer House Melbourne Backpackers

I had a great stay here and felt very comfortable. Stayed for a week and my 6 bed room was a decent size. The room and ensuite were cleaned every day which was great as it didn’t get very dirty at all. Met lots of lovely people and the staff were good too. The kitchen is small and there isn’t much room for food storage, but other than that it was great. The rooftop is a good place to chill too.

Me and my friend stayed here and we had a great time. Originally booked a 8 bed and got upgraded for free to a 4 bed. The staff are all super friendly and willing to help, especially Max ! They even had a travel agent who was amazing at helping us plan the rest of our trip! Would recommend! Alanah and Elly x

Very mixed feelings about this hostel. Some staff are great, some not so great - very passive aggressive and unhelpful. Had signs put on our well kept belongings (in packing cubes) telling us to tidy up or our belongings would be given to charity/thrown away. Room was big and spacious, bed ok, duvet and pillow under bedding was disgusting bright yellow. Black mould in our room hidden behind beds and made me unwell. Kitchen poorly laid out, dry store for food was hot making food go mouldy. Bar had a nice atmosphere and met some amazing people. Overall the hostel is not as great as it is rated on hostel world and certainly not worth the price they’re asking for, ok for a night or two, not good for long stays.

Liked · The staff member at reception, Liam, was very welcoming, friendly and helpful. I was so pleasantly surprised at how nice the private room was, as I was expecting a VERY basic room (considering the very low price). There was a small fridge in the room, towels rolled up on each bed and a modern bathroom. The room was spacious and clean. The curtains were dark enough to keep the light out in the morning. Disliked · The back 'alley way' to the lift didn't create a good first impression of the property but once I entered my room on the third floor, I was able to forget the dingey entrance way to it. It would have been great to have just a few coat hangers on the rail above the bed as there was nowhere else to hang any jackets/clothes. If all you need is a place to put down your head and refresh, this property is ideal. There's no TV, tea & coffee making facilities or ironing equipment in the room but they're all available elsewhere on the property if required. The communal kitchen on the first floor is well equipped - just bring your own milk for tea/coffee. I would happily stay here again.

COVID OUTBREAK - DO NOT GO Hostel dirty, no thorough cleaning in 2 weeks in 8 bed mixed dorm, when asked if they could clean I was advised ‘If I don’t like it leave’ … 5 days later 3 positive in room Can’t cook in kitchen as too dirty and not enough appliances Creepy corridors

Amazing Hostel ! Exceptional Staff and Establishment : Most friendly and helpful receptionist ever, so lovely and great first impression of hostel. Really good breakfast. Close Proximity to Melbourne CBD. The room was clean and quiet, with an excellent shower. what you really get is tranquillity and excitement rolled into one! Great Air con and heater in private rooms and dorm rooms On the premise very clean grounds, housekeeping service is great. Lots of information brochures available to all local attractions, and of course friendly knowledgeable staff. Staff are really helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean and have comfortable beds. Full functional kitchen with enough pots and pans to make your breakfast. Enjoyed our stay with friends and families. Entertainment: Hotel Barkly public bar is home to some great entertainment, including trivia nights and food and drink specials throughout the week. There are Summer Sunday Sessions with live music/DJs on the beautiful rooftop, overlooking St Kilda. Make sure to ask at reception for details on the night's entertainment. (Hotel Barkly Public Bar located on premise! And private function rooftop bar for elegant evenings, or a fun night out with friends) The Best Things To See and Do in St Kilda, Melbourne: The Beach a ten-minute walk and close to local eateries, cafés and funky bars restaurant with style. Sip on craft beer at The Local Tap house. Visit Luna Park. Spend a day on St Kilda Beach. Check out the revamped Espy. See a gig at the Palais Theatre. Raise a fine glass at local restaurants Local bars with amazing cocktails Feast on seafood with a side serving of live music. Mould infested bathrooms and when I told reception quote “ its a backpacking lodge” so I guess that gives it justification…. I was standing at the bar for a while waiting to be served and I was the only person in there when finally the bar staff which was on her phone approached me like I was an inconvenience. Will NEVER stay here again.
