The chicken racing at the back is wonderful and Ben is a very talented comedian. Tambo is a very good country town and a middle stop between Mount Isa and Brisbane.

Quaint pub that has a good atmosphere We had the bangers and mash which was nicely cooked and plenty to eat Drink prices reasonable - we had beer plus wine with dinner A bonus is musical entertainment adding to the night. There is no charge to get in Two large friendly dogs wandering around

I’d heard about the chicken races in Tambo but hadn’t really known where Tambo was…. so when we were going to Longreach it was great to discover it was only 3 hours away…. therefore totally do-able!! And it was the most rewarding 3 (well 6) hours we’ve driven, as Ben and his chickens were an absolute scream and provided some of the silliest fun we’ve had in many years. I don’t know how Ben keeps up that show night in night out, but HUGE thanks to him for doing so!!!! How could we not keep putting our hands up and up and up to ‘bid’ for rights to the orange and purple chickens….. they might have been the stupidest two birds of a stupid bunch but to contribute a little bit to charity for such an all-out good-times experience was worth any $$$s!! We stayed on for a few drinks and dinner at the Royal Carrangarra Hotel and the very cheap wine (I think the house Chardonnay was called ‘Foul Play’ or similar ha ha ha) was not as nasty as you might imagine!!! Our two meals hit the spot, even if it was poor taste to order a chicken schnitzel ha! The Royal Barramundi (topped with garlic prawns) went against my rule about ordering seafood when nowhere near the sea but it was goooood! The line-up to order food after the races finish is somewhat chaotic so we sat and had a drink to let the queue die down and the food didn’t take long to arrive. That is something to bear in mind. Sitting back and having a glass of something and reflecting on world class chicken racing instead of standing in a line is the better plan!!!

Bathrooms were in really bad condition. Pub extremely noisy & we slept above the pub area which had karaoke on at full volume from 9pm till midnight

Great country pub with lots of fun to be had

This pub unfortunately is the worst place I have encountered. The publican unfortunately has a drinking problem who likes to abuse ,bully and belittle his staff . There's a reason he can't keep staff. The beds need to be burnt 20 years ago never seen anything like them . Health and safety should of shut this place down along time ago. Pies being made while serving customers at the bar in the middle of covid . Mass amounts of flies everywhere food included. Abuses his locals when he's full of piss .. Please don't not support this business he is not a kind or honest person.

This is a great, fun country pub. The publican is so funny and friendly, the chicken race was very entertaining and it’s for charity. We had the dinner special and it was really delicious for the price. Thank you for a really good night.

What a fun evening. We were collected from Stubby Bend to be in the pub in time to buy drinks then listen to Ben introduce the 9 racing girls then the race followed. 9 beautifully coloured hens ran around the track up to 4 times, following the remote control car with seed in the back. Reminded me of Benny Hill days of years gone by. Barcoo Blue took line honours again. We ate our dinner and we’re delivered back to our caravan. Thanks Ben, great night. PS The savoury mince on toast with mash was delicious.

Stopped in Tambo overnight expecting a quiet night. Was told about this pub and it’s Chook Races. Wondered down for a look. Chook races were great and the atmosphere in the pub was fantastic. Live music was great, food was great and all on a Wednesday night.
