Reading all these previous reviews makes me feel like we stayed in a completely different place. We drove 6hrs and got to Matariki around 7:20pm to a seemingly grumpy male “host”, no welcome, no walking to room, no small talk. A second interaction on the next day of our visit was no better, would almost say was much worse as he snapped when asked a general question. The beds are fairly comfy and the room was clean but a bit dated, the towels need a good napisan and there were ants through the bathroom. We were in a back unit so road noise wasn’t an issue. The motel serves its purpose but I definitely wouldn’t be rushing back and especially not to the rude/not suitable-for-customer-relations male “host”

What an awesome place to stay. I have never been made to feel so welcome in all the motels I have stayed in like I was staying at Matariki. Spotless comfortable rooms and the best part? I could take my 2 little chihuahuas with me. They were made just as welcome as myself Highly recommend this place and will be returning for sure. AAAA+

We stayed in a Studio room and found it to be immaculately clean and well kitted out with everything a traveller could need. The room was spacious, nicely decorated and the bed very comfortable. Friendly reception and excellent value for money.

Exceptionally clean and everything you need is in the room. All presented in a health n safety environment. The Art in the room is worth staring at cause it's so cool. My family n I arrived after 10pm n stayed for 2 nights. Very welcoming n will b staying again at the Matariki.

Our family can highly recommend this Motor Lodge for its location, cleanliness and space! Brilliant sized rooms for everyone to chill in, in a quiet location. We were towing a large motocross trailer and appreciated the extra effort put in by the owners to create space to park it. Will definitely book here again.

We spent three nights at the Matariki Motor Lodge and our expectations were exceeded in every way. The hosts are so lovely and extremely helpful and even looked after our pooch whilst we went to Waitomo Caves for a few hours. They are super friendly and just love dogs! The room was beautifully presented, comfortable and had everything we needed. We loved their approach to sustainability and took more steps to help the planet than anywhere else we’ve stayed - including a catchment for grey water bucket in the shower, a separate recycling bin, encouragement to use their allocated bins for green waste. All super easy to do and not over the top. It did feel like a home away from home for our family.

Best equipped motel i've stayed at. Smart Tv in lounge and bedroom. Comfy bed. Spacious.quiet. perfect. Even free shower gel and shampoo pumps in shower. It felt very posh. Lovely staff. I will be back.
