We recently visited Kanatal as part of our Delhi – Rishikesh (1N) – Kanatal (1N) – Mussoorie (2N) Uttarakhand tour. 1. ABOUT KANATAL – Not known to many, Kanatal is an offbeat destination and truly hidden gem situated at 8,500 ft asl on Chamba – Mussoorie route. This is even higher than other well-known hill stations like Mussoorie, Ooty, Darjeeling or Shimla which are in the range of 7,000 ft height. Kanatal has pleasant or rather cold weather all year round and receives up to 4 ft of snow in winter. Subject to weather, one can see magnificent snow-clad Himalayan Mountain ranges from here. It is always recommended to carry jackets and woolens even in Summer. The access roads are all very good especially one must take the Rishikesh – Chamba – Kanatal scenic Route which is part of Char Dham Shivalik Road Projects. 2. RESORT - The Terraces, a boutique 4-star resort located just off the main road amidst majestic forests of pine & deodar trees overlooking mountain ranges and snow-clad Himalayan peaks at a distance. Subject to weather, one can see mountain ranges like Bandar Poonch, Satopanth, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamanotri from here. Resort is spread over 5 acres of landscaped gardens on a hillslope and has only ~20 rooms. Ample parking space is available. 3. ROOMS – There are 8 deluxe, 12 premier and a suite room. Deluxe rooms are mostly located on ground floor whereas Premier ones are on 1st floor with good valley views. We had booked Deluxe Room, and it was situated at one of the quiet corners of the property. There was no AC or Fan in the room rather there was a live fireplace (chargeable), Heater and Bed warmer provided. Room had comfy King Size Bed with premium bedding and choice of pillows. Each room also had a balcony with a sitout. The Washroom was compact especially the shower area but functional. It was stinking badly though. The hairdryer can be found in the drawer which we missed whereas slippers were available on request. The Toiletries were of premium brand, and we liked the Inora Bath Soap made from Ginger and Grapefruit. Overall room tariff is little expensive (~ 15K per night including BF, Dinner and Tax) and extra person charges in the range of additional 2,500 – 5,000. But it was worth every penny. 4. AMENITIES / ACTIVITIES – Resort offers various activities like guided trekking, forest safari, nature walks, outdoor lunch on chargeable basis etc. They also have play area for Kids, indoor & Outdoor Games a Burma bridge. Resort also organizes bonfire with live music every evening besides the Bar area. 5. FOOD – Breakfast spread was good and besides regular continental spread, there was also Sandwiches, Idli, Sooji Upma, Paratha, Poori, Aloo ke Gutkhe, Dosa etc. Overall quality, taste and quantity of the food was good. There is also Mohan ka Dhaba inside which serves Kulhad Ki Chai with pakoras and other snack items (chargeable) in the evening. The dinner was included in our package. It was Veg buffet based on Guest preferences on th
