Had been wanting to stay at historic Stannum house for some time. Mixed feelings on our two night stay. Whilst greeting at the front door was warm & friendly by Sue. Presentation in grotty sloppy joes & tshirt was not becoming of such a grand house. Same would go for the not so friendly chap in reception, off the dining room in his farm boots watching the races with volume up the whole way through breakfast the next morning. Which was basically inedible as stale cereal & very dry bread for toast. Would never order a meal. Our room Kirk Jensen was comfortable with a patch up ensuite. The downstairs front display rooms had been tastefully renovated back to former glory. Great views from the roof top tower. It’s a shame the drive round entrance & gardens were not kept in good repair, with no enticement to use the chairs & tables sitting amongst metre long grass.

What a stunning house and place to stay. Friendly service from the guy checking us in. Remarkable amount of work done to return the house to it's former glory. Well done to the owners who have done that. We had a large comfortable room with a seperate bathroom. Bed was great. Breakfast was simple continental. The house has a communal sitting room, with team and coffee making facilities, along with a fridge for your goodies. The front rooms are made up in the style of the house and offer a great glimpse of a beautifully appointed home. Fabulous viw from the tower, and the large verandah was a great place for a glass of wine as the sun went down. Position is A1 - it's just a very short walk to the centre of Tenterfield (3 blocks). Absolutely loved our stay. Remarkable value.

Quirky and needs ALOT of work, staff were friendly enough and price was cheap. I had a vase in my room with artificial flowers with black ?water in it.. not sure what that was about, alot of things not clean that could easily be. Fun for an overnight stay but more than that would be uncomfortable. Breakfast was lower than average for a continental, doubtful i would stay again, I really did want to love it. Also going up to the tower is pretty hazardous for older clientele ..beware!

A mate and I chose Stannum house for the price, $99 which was slightly cheaper than other hotels in the area and I was attracted to the historic aspect of the building for an overnighter on our motorcycle road trip. It also offered ‘secure’ parking and twin beds, and thankfully upon request an ensuite! We arrived & were greeted at the front door by a friendly staff member who issued us our keylock codes then took us to the ‘Kirk Jen’ room on the first floor next to the communal area. I would say the room provided what it said on the box , i.e. a place to sleep and an ensuite. There was a random mish mash of furniture around the 4 poster and single beds, trying to give the room a historic feel but it honestly looked like it had come from an op shop! The room was also in need of some TLC with wallpaper hanging off the ceiling & gaping cracks in the tiles around the sink! However we found the beds to be comfy and made use of the heated blankets and felt the room provided to our basic needs. The nearby communal area had a microwave, toaster, kettle & communal fridge and access to complimentary tea, coffee and milk. The room price also included a help yourself continental breakfast consisting of cereals, toast and coffee. The dining room had some historic aspects to it, along with random stuff like old teddy bears on a sofa next to the tables! Upon exploring the hotel it appeared to have a good history, and also some rooms while inaccessible appeared set in the original style, as were the hallways. The front balcony seemed a nice spot for evening drinks and a climb up the steep steps to the tower balcony offered a nice rooftop view of the area. The hotel was quiet and close to town with a Coles down the road and the Telegraph Hotel/Pub where we enjoyed dinner. Overall I thought Stannum House was an adequate and interesting but quirky hotel in need of some TLC. I personally would stay here again on a trip with a mate if it offered the best price, but am sure my wife wouldn’t appreciate the quirkiness and what she would call ‘old tat’!! 7.5/10

For the first overnight stop on our road trip from Brisbane, Stannum House was a welcome break. We were greeted at the front door by the manager who checked us in and then kindly showed us to our room. The staff were friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was a continental buffet style arrangement in the dining room downstairs, with a range of cereals, toast, juice and coffee/tea. Our room (the Julius Caesar Room) was very comfortable and spacious, and had its own en-suite. Tea, coffee and refrigerator facilities are available in the common on the first floor landing. Victorian Italianate in design, Stannum House exudes history from another era, and has the feel of staying in a stately home. Built circa 1888 by John Holmes Reid, a farmer originally from Scotland, who became wealthy through tin mining, the house is named Stannum after the latin word for Tin. The house is located just a short walk from Tenterfield town centre. There is a magnificent view across Tenterfield and surrounds from the roof terrace. We stayed only one night, but if we had the time would have loved to stay longer. We look forward to our next opportunity to stay at Stannum House.

It is so spacious so we didn't see the other guests. Stannum House was built in 1888 by John Holmes Reid. It is the foremost architecturally and historically significant building in the district. It was designed by Italian architects in the latest and grandest style of the era.The fully restored building was opened in 2003 We are looking forward to our next stay!

Blue room, on the ground floor looked fantastic, wall papers and paint works well done. Stop! yep that's the good bit. The bed was two single beds pushed together with a king mattress laid over. Sagging each side and rising in the centre 20 cm, yes our close night together would have to wait'. The bathroom was 6 meters down and over the hall way handy if wish to meet the other guests on the way to breakfast. The staff were friendly.

Historic house converted to accommodation. We had our own room for our family with a large double bed and two separate single beds. Bathroom was located separately and down the hallway. If you would like to self-cater, there is a shared kitchen with large fridge and microwave, toaster. Breakfast was simple but sufficient. Location handy to town. We found it an interesting place to stay, compared with bunking down in a motel room. The room itself could do with a bit of upkeep but it was fine and comfortable with a good heater and large tv.

We stayed 2 nights here having wanted to do so for many years. The history and the care taken to maintain and protect that history is exceptional. Kai and his team are friendly and fantastic. The rooms are enchanting and the house is a short walk to the centre of town. A must do in Tenterfield
