Overpriced and poor value for money. The food is fine but not worth the price tag. Please note the menu advertised online is affordable, however the menu being offered on arrival is more expensive and has changed. Some meals differ by £6. Scampi is now £17 which was essentially frozen scampi you’d expect to get at Weatherspoons. I ordered the £11 mussels as a starter to come out with the main course as that is all I wanted - They were delicious- But I was charged £20 for them without being asked if this was ok or even being told they were being served as a bigger portion, when their wasn’t even an option for mussels as a main course or a price advertised . A lovely pub with nice staff but we felt really cheated by the experience. We’ve been coming here for a few years now but won’t be going again.

Bit disappointed with our stay to be honest. Arrived at about 4.15 pm after a hot and tiring day walking the coast path (and very thirsty!) to find the bar didn’t open until 6. No official reception so had to let ourselves in. Room was fine, as was the bed, but our evening meal was not good! We chose the Thai curry which we only ate (well most of it) as we were starving hungry. This curry was chunks of chicken served on a bed of rice with poppadoms and an excess of red peppers plus a mass of skin-on new potatoes cut in halves. No sauce! Quite bizarre. We didn’t eat breakfast here. I had also had problems in contacting this place in advance of our arrival after numerous phone calls with no reply, so much so that I honestly thought they must have closed down.

Good food and beers in a clean spacious country pub. Don’t be put off by the manager reviews. We got a friendly welcome and care in all the things that matter. The food and beer were served and everything was right. He wasn’t any Terry Wogan but the pub was running well. nothing was wrong. We’d go back.

Trusted, tried and reliable food at this pub; always great beer, service and grub. Been coming here for several years on holidays from our home in eastern Devon. Never been disappointed with anything I'v e ordered and eaten. It's a very popular destination so I would always advise booking. Be patient with opening times, however, they tend to be a little tardy! That said we'll always make this a "must" when staying nearby in Thurlestone. Service and staff exceptionally friendly, polite and attentive.

Sorry to say, bad cooking! And staff seemed stressed by the amount of customers. Lovely spot but sadly I couldn't recommend this pub. I used to stay here and it was great - laid back, good value, so relaxing - but it seems to have turned into yet another gastro pub (but with bad food).

Wide menu and great food. Traditional English pub setting with a real pub atmosphere. Friendly and accommodating mature staff. Still very busy being Feburary during off-peak season. Very happy. Also, have great coffee which is important after a meal. Thank you!

We received a warm and friendly welcome from Jamie and the team . We had lunch - the fish pie was delicious and my husband had haddock which he really enjoyed too .Thank you to the chef and kitchen staff . It’s a great traditional pub with a welcoming atmosphere and log fires . Would highly recommend .

Fantastic food , perfect stay , all the staff were extremely welcoming and friendly . There was a warm and friendly atmosphere it could not have been better . We will definitely be back . Don’t be put off by negative reviews , not sure they stayed in the same place .

Stayed here for 3nights recently . The tall gentleman behind the bar was very abrupt , there was no welcome or asked during the stay if we were ok or were our rooms ok . We asked on the Saturday night in the bar if we could have the tv on there was no one else sat with us and he said no ! It’s for rugby only! Quite surly . A smile and a greeting costs nothing . Breakfast on the 1st morning Mushrooms very salty bacon was 1 piece of streaky bacon not good quality . 2nd morning staff couldn’t get the main door open to let us in Eventually they did Cook hadn’t turned up The guy that let us in hadn’t done breakfast before , There was no fruit juices available we had to ask . Poor customer service throughout .
