Shalom Backpackers Udaipur

I recently stayed at Shalom Backpackers in Udaipur and had an overall enjoyable experience. The hostel is conveniently located near popular attractions like the City Palace and Pichola Lake, making it easy to explore the city. Ambiance and Vibe: Shalom Backpackers has a youthful, laid-back vibe. The common areas, including the rooftop café, offer stunning views of Udaipur’s skyline and are perfect for chilling out after a day of sightseeing. The rooftop restaurant is a highlight with its cozy seating and beautiful view of the lake, especially during sunset. Rooms: The dorms were clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and decent storage options. The private rooms were simple yet comfortable, with good air conditioning and basic amenities. The bathrooms were clean but could have been slightly better maintained. Staff and Service: The staff was friendly and helpful, always ready to offer advice on local attractions and assist with bookings. They create a welcoming atmosphere, often organizing activities like walking tours or group dinners, which is great for solo travelers looking to meet new people. Facilities: The Wi-Fi was decent throughout the property. The hostel also offers bike rentals, which is a fun way to explore Udaipur. However, I did feel that the common areas could get a bit crowded during peak hours, especially the rooftop café. Food: The food at the rooftop café was good, with a mix of Indian and international options. While the menu was slightly limited, the quality was great, and the prices were reasonable for a backpacker-friendly place. Conclusion: Shalom Backpackers Udaipur is a great choice for budget travelers and backpackers looking for a social, comfortable stay with all the basic amenities. Its central location, friendly staff, and relaxed vibe make it a solid option for anyone wanting to experience Udaipur without breaking the bank.

This was easily the worst stay I’ve ever had in any hotel. The only thing good about it is its location. The hostel is extremely dirty and maintained very badly. The staff are very unhelpful, rude and uncaring. We stayed in one of the dorm rooms, and food had been spilt on the bed and wall by previous guests which had not been cleaned for some days. We requested the staff to clean the room 3 times but this wasn’t done. A total of 3 bedsheets of 7 had to be changed and the food on the wall was still not cleaned. They did not allow us to change our beds either, and to prevent us from doing so, another staff member slept in our room. One of our group members left their tote bag in the common room by mistake and the staff through it away. This is completely unacceptable and is not even in the terms and conditions which the staff said it was. Third, since people sit and socialise in common spaces of hostels even at night (around 10-10:30pm) the staff should not be allowed to turn the lights off without consulting the guests sitting there or asking them to leave. Instead of being good hosts, in all, it felt almost as though the staff did not want any guests to stay at this hostel, so grant them this wish and don’t stay here.

I am a travel freak having own travel club on FB with 2.9k+ members from more than 30 countries. I have stayed in many hostels across India/abroad but first time i have seen "Kids managing a hostel. SHALOM: Good hostel at a nice location but managed by nonprofessional kids. I stayed at this hostel for 3 nights during my visit to Udaipur. In fact, our group (42 people) stayed there. Everybody was annoyed because of the very poor management of the hostel. Housekeeping is managed by kids who hardly bother about your convenience and complaints. Even I had complained about the nonfunctioning of the AC in our dorm but the housekeeping kids ignored my compalint. Even the remotes of all ACs of Shalom Hostel are in captivity of the owner. The receptionist gyl called one AC technician & he guided on call to switch on the AC after removing the face cover of AC blower. That's how the Shalom hostel is managed.......by the kids. There are many properties in the vicinity and travelers should focus on options seriously.
