Vieques Good Vibe Guest House

I wrote this review on Google Review and I'm sharing this on TripAdvisor in order to help more people. This hostel/guest house is in appallingly horrific conditions, and not at all ready to receive guests. First off, this place is not worth the price we paid. After seeing the conditions of the facilities I would not pay more than $50 for a bed here, and that’s pushing it. Second, this place is still very much recovering from Hurricane Maria and was under construction when we arrived. Though the hurricane had devastating affects on the island, it does not excuse the owner in making sure that guest accommodations are up to code. We were notified that electricians would be making repairs, but only the morning of. This was not at all a worrisome situation, but what we walked into was more than just quick wire fixtures going on. When we arrived, the hostel appeared to be vacant. There were two other guests also trying to check-in when we did and were just as confused as us. There was no manger, or receptionist on site—only the electricians. We eventually were given the keys to our rooms after one of the other guests, who spoke Spanish, communicated with the electricians to give us the keys. Upon entering our room we noticed that the beds were made and fresh towels left out for us. However, further inspection revealed that the room was unclean. Dust, multiple hanging cobwebs (the kind that come from neglectful cleaning practices), and the ac unit (which we were grateful for) was covered in dust which then blew all over the beds/room. The mattresses are old and have rotting holes in them. We’re in a remote location so we just brushed it off. Left our bags and went out for the day. Once back in the evening, the building’s poor condition was much more apparent. We had to search for the bathroom as it was not clearly marked. The bathroom door is a piece of ply wood with an exposed lock and the facet did not fully function. Not only that, but the toilet was covered in small roaches. I understand that critters can get in, but the magnitude seen needed to be addressed. When I called to speak to Gina about some of concerns we had, I was met with deflection and a defensive attitude. The way in which she spoke on the phone, and then continued to text us, was incredibly egregious. Before I was able to fully explain the situation, she completely cut me off and went on a tangent complaining about people from the mainland and their complaints. She assumed that I was complaining about not having hot water. That was not the issue. The issue was that the facet when turned on had no water coming out of it. This island is hot, I don’t need hot water…I just need water. When referencing the AC units, Gina attempted to suggest that these units are brand new and worth $2000. That is simply a lie. Ours was a single Toshiba window unit ranging from between $50-$150, and was definitely used. The conversation felt very juvenile and inappropriate for a customer service exchange
