We stayed there for two weeks on our holiday to Sri Lanka and enjoyed the experience tremendously! Having booked the trip with a travel agent I must say I was a little concerned having read some of the reviews about issues other guests encountered but am happy to report we had none of the problems ourselves. The location is great – secluded and serene with a gorgeous garden with palm trees and green spaces surrounding the hotel, yes with a train line in the vicinity but in fairness while you can hear the trains it is not often and really not particularly disturbing. The beach right outside the hotel has been claimed by the ocean but there is beach access within minutes of the hotel with lounges for hotel guests as well as a wild beach right on the doorstep. Food is amazing – the choice of fruits alone makes it worth staying in the hotel, but there is plenty to choose from for all meals of the day – with a wide selection of juices at breakfast, a range of continental, English breakfast but also local delicacies at breakfast, tasty made curries, breads and rice at all meals and freshly made meats, fish and choice of vegetables at lunch and dinner, never mind the choice of desserts! Honestly, I am not sure what more you could ask for. For all inclusive guests there is mid-morning and mid-afternoon snacks so it is simply not possible to be hungry no matter how big your appetite may be. There are bars in the hotel, open during the day and in the evening – with live music to enjoy after dinner. The pool is fantastic, plus there is a choice of sporty entertainment to keep active should you wish to do that. Otherwise, you can just chill on a lounge chair and soak in the atmosphere… The room we were staying in was spacious and clean, and the way the balconies are well designed to give all guests a feeling of privacy (you do not peek into your neighbour’s balcony), while enjoying very nice views of the garden and the ocean. There are some shops and a spa in the hotel itself and close by, and there is a choice of restaurants as well as massage places along the beach too in you want to venture out. The hotel organises some additional entertainment – we went to a dance show in aid of a local charity which was really good and also were quite lucky to be in Sri Lanka on the independence day (4 February) – the hotel organised a celebration with some tasty food and great entertainment show for the guests, which was a real bonus. All staff were very professional and friendly, from room service, pool attendants, restaurant managers, waiters and bar staff, through reception and porters (Duminda with his stunning and welcoming smile is worth a special mention!), as well as support staff you see around the hotel. Everyone was always super friendly, chatted to us asking where we were from, how we are enjoying our stay and wishing us a good holiday. We really enjoyed our stay in the Royal Palms Beach hotel – we felt so welcome and well looked after! We would r
