I had a pleasant stay at Pema Karoo hotel. The location of the hotel is riverfront, far out of town, away from shops and restaurants. However, like all tourists in Bhutan, I was full board, so all of my meals were taken care of by the hotel, so the location wasn't an issue for me. I did see the town itself, and it was nothing to write home about, so I was quite happy to be staying in a quiet hotel located on the river. There were very few guests staying at the hotel while I was there in December, so it was rather peaceful. Rooms were very large and spacious. Rooms were equipped with furniture (couch, chair, desk, coffee table, bed side tables), a heater, an electric kettle, flat screen tv with satellite and many English news and entertainment channels. Wifi was extremely spotty and dropped frequently, for long periods of time, or simply struggled to connect. When it did work, it was only strong enough to send a few messages and load basic webpages. Upon check-in, I was greeted by friendly, smiling staff and offered a welcome coffee/tea (proper coffee, not "coffee-tea" - thank you!). Staff were courteous and always on hand. Staff were extremely accommodating in making my stay at the hotel as pleasant as possible, catering meals exactly to specification and dietary preferences. They would check in with guests prior to every meal to ensure dietary requirements were met and meals were served on time. I have to thank the staff, as all of the meals were terrific, and were prepared according to dietary preferences. Rooms came with toiletries, which was a nice surprise. 2 bottled water, 2-3 dental kits with a fairly big toothpaste inside, shampoo, shower gel, 2 bar soap, instant coffee/Nescafé and milk powder packets were supplied and replenished each day. Towels were clean, linen was nice (but very used, and stained), and beds were comfortable! Upon check-in, my bathroom wasn't cleaned, and there were many black hairs all over the tub and floor, and used towels all over the floor...but staff were quick to resolve the issue, with many apologies, and cleaned the bathroom. It wasn't an issue for me to wait 10 minutes for this, and appreciated that staff were attentive to resolving the issue! The only other deficiency in the room would be the lack of power outlets. Really, there was only one functioning and available outlet, in my room and I overheard other guests commenting the same. You were made to choose between running the heater, running the kettle or charging your phone. My work around was to unplug the TV and satellite overnight, allowing me to run the heater (it was cold in December!) and charge my phone simultaneously. Overall, a nice hotel, a great stay and I would stay again at this hotel! The staff made the stay a pleasurable and comfortable one!
