I recently enjoyed a 4-night stay at Northern Lights Resort and Spa which offers a beautiful winter getaway. The experience was overall delightful, with stunning cabins and excellent food, but there are areas where improvements could enhance the guest experience. Booking The booking process could be streamlined by allowing online reservations. Currently, it involves multiple steps: filling out an inquiry, a phone call, and submitting a credit card form via email. An online system would simplify this. Additionally, while many packages include tours and scheduled meals, receiving an itinerary in advance would be helpful for planning. Currently, guests receive their itinerary for their stay upon arrival. Sauna bookings could also use improvement; they are only available upon arrival, and only one type of sauna is offered each day based on the first booking. It would be nice to be able to book the sauna ahead and have it worked into the itinerary. Regarding gratuities, I encountered some confusion around a 12% charge for groups booking multiple cabins - I was initially told my friends and I could choose our own gratuity but then told we would be charged 12% automatically. I complained about this because I didn't want to force my friends into a specific amount and they were good about it and let us choose our own gratuities which I appreciated. Ensure when you are booking that you budget for $150-$180 dollars (around 12-15% of your package) of gratuity per day - this is their stated expectation for staff gratuity. Location The resort is conveniently located about 20 km from Whitehorse, with a comfortable bus for airport transfers and tours. Guests can also enjoy numerous walking trails nearby, perfect for nature enthusiasts. Cabins The cabins are beautiful, clean, and well-maintained, featuring gas fireplaces and radiant floor heating. Most cabins have large windows for aurora viewing, with tasteful furnishings and decor. However, I found the shower pressure lacking and was surprised that robes and higher-quality toiletries were not provided, given the resort's price point. A local, spa-quality product selection (including conditioner) would elevate the experience. Additionally, having basic toiletries like toothbrushes available for purchase would be a valuable addition. Spa Services While the massages received rave reviews, it's worth noting that the resort does not offer a full spa experience, which may lead to misunderstandings for some guests expecting a broader range of services. Massages and the sauna are the only spa amenities. An outdoor hot tub would be a great addition, enhancing the overall relaxation experience. Tours The Southern Lakes tour featured stunning scenery, but some stops, like Carcross, were less engaging due to limited open attractions. This can be improved upon by guests pre-reading about some of the buildings in carcross to make this stop more worthwhile. Our guide, Juan, made the experience enjoyable with his enga
