We have been going to Williamsburg VA a couple of times a year for 20+ years. This was the worst place we have ever encountered. A balcony was important to us, all pictures showed balconies on all floors on the buildings. I call the facility and was told units had balconies before I made the reservations. No balcony on the units we were given. Requested 1st floor due to knee surgery, was assigned upper condo. Moved to second condo, smelled like crime scene clean up, major bleach odor, third unit had TV that didn’t work and coffee maker with black scum floating in clean water reservoir. Phone system did not work and front desk would not pick up calls from outside line due to being busy. Waited 1 1/2 hours to get maintenance for tv. Tried every marked button on the one phone in the unit. Lines rang but no one ever picked up, called front desk from my cell phone, no one picked up. At that point I drove to the front desk area and asked for the manager. She was aware phone system didn’t work properly and that outside calls were not being answered, which happened when they did not have enough staff and were busy. When I got to the lobby I saw about 6 Wyndham employees standing around talking to each other. This was not a “staff” problem, it was a management problem. I was visibly upset and mentioned my safety concern if the phone system did not work and no one was picking up phone calls. She said I should have been told to dial “0” if I needed anything at the time I registered. How about a simple sticker on the phone saying that. As a senior citizen traveling, safety is a concern. These units had no locks on the exterior doors, no phone system that worked and no one picking up calls, how could that make a guest feel safe. The manager had no reaction to any of these concerns. Her solution to making me a happy customer was to tell me she was moving me up in the maintenance queue. When they got to our condo Maintenance found a sensor was knocked off tv, said it happens often and housekeeping just puts it behind tv. Maintenance replaced coffee maker because he could not get top to close, unaware of scum floating inside. We planned to stay just night and move to another place in the morning. However it was homecoming weekend and the places we knew were good had no vacancies, so we were out of luck. The manager never even bothered to follow up with us to see if the issues were resolved. Wyndham should be ashamed to put their name on this location.
