Wow I realize the last review was in 2016 and was by me too! Here's a 2023 update. Firstly the onsen is gone. Instead it's been replaced by shared wooden ofuros. You get a 45-60 minute slot for your turn to use the male/female ofuro which can only be used in the evenings between 6-10pm. A rather odd rule is that the inn is only open from 10am to 4pm which means you have to leave your room daily by 10am and you can't re-enter the inn till 4pm. If you arrive before 4pm, the inn isn't open so you are expected to leave your luggage in a outdoor storage cabinet. It's not a locker so you can't lock it. There is no restaurant in the inn or nearby but they sell some snacks. Yoshino is a very traditional Japanese village and the restaurants shut by 5pm so you have to finish dinner by then. The staff were very nice but as you can probably tell by my description, non Japanese are probably going to find all this quite a challenging experience. Yoshino hasn't changed at all since I last went in 2016. Very beautiful and spiritual area.
