Disappointing Room Size
The hotel room I received didn’t match the specifications promised during booking. Advertised as a 26 sqm King-sized space, the room I walked into was significantly smaller (around 20 sqm) —cramped and difficult to navigate, with barely any space for luggage or comfortable movement.
Initially, the service agent insisted all rooms were the same size and claimed I’d been upgraded to a Queen-sized room. They also told me no alternative rooms were available due to full booking.
After nearly an hour of late-night discussion with the on-duty manager—around 11pm—I was finally offered a room that was noticeably more spacious and aligned with my expectations.
This experience highlights the importance of honest and accurate descriptions in hotel listings. I hope future guests won’t have to deal with the same confusion and inconvenience.
A good budget no frills hotel about 15 minutes outside of Gloucester,on site parking, clean room.with ensuite (everything worked ).comfy and clean large double bed , quiet , inside and out and a very helpful guy on reception when I checked in.Very goo value for the money.
It was a good hotel, a bit basic, rooms (in the hall part of the hotel) need updating; not sure of the others. The restaurant good. The breakfast was good but a bit busy on one of the days.
The hotel facilities need attention. TV remote not working, the team couldn’t get it fixed easily; not ideal.
Lovely hotel. Brand new so immaculate and very clean.
Roof top bar and view over Glos great place for drinks. They need more cushions though and seating uncomfortable if you don’t manage to sit on a cushioned chair.
Wine okay- limited rose options.
Room well designed and high tech offerings such as coffee machine, milk in the fridge and biscuits.
No earl grey tea or oat milk options sadly.
Hairdryer and steamer all top tech.
Shower powerful and spacious. Products fresh and okay quality.
Comfy bed and air con.
Dressing gown missing the belt!
Brilliant few days spent at the Devere. No complaints at all! The staff are all polite and nothing is too much bother. The breakfast are buffet style great choices of breads fruit cereal s and juices, as well as cooked food - this could be hotter but it’s the norm with buffet. The old boathouse is fab part of the hotel but separate big shout for Jack who was brilliant. We also used ROX over the road for canoe hire defo worth a visit.
Hotel is ideal for all local amenities, it comes with a fridge and microwave good shower room and well serviced.
Only complaint is that the beds are so low it's impossible for anyone with any disabilities to get in and out of bed and is only reason I won't be staying again.
Disappointed at first off when I found out I had to pay a further £5 for parking my car. First appearance was it seemed very dated. The room was ok, bed clean and comfortable, tea, coffee making facilities. TV was a limited on stations, but absolutely no WiFi or if there was it wasn’t available in my room. Noise from the next door room, and from upstairs in particular was unbearable, I think they must have been real heavyweights as every step across their room was vibrating down through my ceiling, and at one point sounded like they were jumping off the bed it was so loud, I actually thought they would be coming through. The bathroom had really seen better days, felt grubby, mould on the ceiling, plugs in both the bath and the sink were old and broken, and the bath itself had seen better days, but on a positive note the towels were clean. All in all I didn’t feel it was worth the £72 plus parking fees and wouldn’t recommend, unless you could get it for less than £40 Max.
Location is good, beautiful building, room is nice, bed is comfortable!
However, the meals were really so so.
For such a price, I would expect of a higher quality in overall. We had dinner and breakfast there, the dinner was better, but breakfast not worth a try.
The room was nice, amenities were good and exactly what they stated it would be. Unfortunately the other guests were very noisy and kept me up all night whilst I had an important assessment. Thats not on the hotel though. Wish there was a couple of be considerate signs in the corridor though.

Very Good
SSkyeDinnerDecent room size. Dinner took a while to arrive but tasted nice. Breakfast was alright too but didn’t have any hash-browns. Pool was not that big but did allow children over the age of eight to go into the jacuzzi. Pool closed a bit early on Saturday that last entry at 7.15pm. Hotel was overall quite clean.
GGuest UserGreat location. A very nice spa. The hotel room is unfortunately quite old, the shower was cold, the bed was uncomfortable and the walls are very thin making it hard to sleep.
GGuest UserOut of all the hotels we stayed at on our trip, the DoubleTree by Hilton was definitely our favorite, followed by Hampton and Holiday Inn. Sticking with chain hotels really does save you from bad experiences. This particular DoubleTree is located in the Cotswolds, making it super convenient for visiting the nearby towns. Before checking in, we popped over to Bibury. As the sun set and the tourists left, the town was absolutely serene and beautiful! We had planned to wake up early the next day to experience the peaceful beauty of Bourton-on-the-Water before the crowds arrived, but the youngsters just couldn't get out of bed, so that plan fell through. There's a local supermarket right next to the hotel, which has a great selection and good prices – perfect for stocking up on snacks if you're driving. The breakfast was delicious, and the welcome cookies were a lovely treat. The environment is beautiful, and I'd definitely recommend it. If you're driving to the Cotswolds, staying here is an excellent choice!
CChristopherI actually live in the neighborhood around this hotel, but I booked it to host a friend for the weekend. It's not the easiest option in the vicinity to walk to from the train station, though the walk which goes along the canal for most of the way is super scenic if you have time to spare on arrival. The cab to the hotel was also fairly quick and cost us about fifteen quid.
Check-in was super convenient and casual, and the girl working walked us up to the room to introduce all the amenities and features of our room. The room was well equipped but it was a little bit of a disappointment that it didn't have a mini fridge - there aren't a lot of food options or supermarkets in easy walking distance from the hotel, so we had brought some items with us that we had to leave on the windowsill to keep chilled.
Overall though the room was great. The lower level living room was a super comfy spot to chill and eat, and then the raised bedroom was incredibly cosy. I'm 5'11” and I will say I almost took myself out on the sloped walls a few times - I imagine anyone taller would have to be very careful. I've noticed that showers in this area generally aren't super hot or pressurised, but the setup here wasn't too bad.
The pub below is of course super charming, a great place to sit with a pint and watch the sunset, though we didn't try the food. I will probably come back to this pub, and would stay in the inn again if I ever have any reason to.
SSophie RaynsfordHere’s a polished, warm, and genuinely glowing review that flows beautifully and captures everything you experienced at The Bear of Rodborough:
---
We spent a wonderful weekend at The Bear of Rodborough, staying on Friday and Saturday night, and it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. The hotel itself is full of charm, with a beautiful setting and a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
Breakfast was included both mornings and was a real highlight. It was such a refreshing change to have a cooked‑to‑order breakfast rather than a full buffet, while still being able to help ourselves to fruit, yoghurt, and pastries. Everything was fresh and delicious.
We chose to dine at the hotel restaurant on both evenings, and the food was exceptional. The style is very much modern, refined cuisine, and both the duck and the stone bass were beautifully cooked and full of flavour. It felt special without being pretentious.
The hotel also has a pub, which has a great atmosphere and adds to the overall charm of the place. Whether you want a relaxed drink or a cosy corner to unwind in, it’s a lovely space.
Throughout our stay, the staff were consistently attentive, friendly, and genuinely eager to make sure everything was perfect. Their warmth really added to the experience.
All in all, we had a truly lovely stay and would happily recommend The Bear of Rodborough to anyone visiting the Cotswolds. We’d love to return.
GGuest UserA fantastic experience. The staff were welcoming and helpful. The room was clean, comfortable, and full of character, with views of the street. The location is perfect—peaceful and picturesque, yet close to the main sights. We would love to come back and recommend this place to anyone visiting the area.
GGuest UserThe Mousetrap Inn proved to be an excellent choice for our recent getaway. The location is absolutely perfect – just a pleasant walk to the main town, giving us easy access to local attractions, shops, and restaurants while enjoying peaceful surroundings.
What truly made our stay memorable was the genuinely friendly staff. From check-in to checkout, every team member was welcoming and helpful, going out of their way to ensure we had everything needed. Their local knowledge and recommendations enhanced our entire visit.
The included breakfast was a real highlight and exceptional value. Fresh, well-prepared options with plenty of variety kept us satisfied each morning before exploring. It's rare to find complimentary breakfast that actually exceeds expectations.
The inn maintains a cozy, welcoming atmosphere that perfectly matches its charming name. Clean, comfortable accommodations combined with the convenient location made it easy to enjoy both tranquil relaxation and vibrant town center activities.
Highly recommended for friendly service, great value, and ideal location.
DDavid WachendorferMansley refers to their properties as ”managed apartments”. There is no on site staff, you check in online and get a single code that gets you into the building, your room, and the parking. They are very attentive during the stay to make sure you know that if you need anything they are a phone call away. I absolutely love this concept! The property itself appears to have been recently renovated and in immaculate condition. The room was stunning. You walk into a living room area with kitchen with soaring 2 story ceilings. The bedroom is an upstairs loft with king size bed. Towels, linens, mattress, coffee service, etc. are all top of the line. The location can't be beat. Right in the heart of town center with everything you could possible need a short walk away. They have a secure parking lot right next to the property as well. I have stayed at all of the trendy hotels in Cheltenham. This is by far my favorite. Won't stay anywhere else when in Cheltenham. Can't wait to try another Mansley property.
