Hotel des Ducs

Secure parking was a must for us, and this was provided here, free. Check in was easy, pleasant man on reception was also able to recommend a nearby restaurant, which we used, and had a lovely meal. Our room was large with tea/ coffee making facilities. The bed was comfortable and large. We had a walk in shower, the water pressure was good and the water was hot. I like the squeezy soap bottles on the wall, as there's always plenty! Breakfast was lovely, no hot food available but plenty of everything and no pressure to eat up and go. Lovely dining room. We only stayed one night, to break up a long journey, but I would recommend this hotel and would stay again.

Convenient place to stay overnight when traveling south. Modern, clean, comfortable and welcoming.

Such a lovely find. Welcoming people just away from centre. Staff friendly, rooms spotless, food in the restaurant wonderful. Alencon is well worth stopping over for a couple of days! Thankyou DesDucs for a fantastic stay.

This was a little Gem of a hotel. Really convenient to find and easy as it’s on the outskirts of town. Met with great hosts and secure parking with lovely gardens and bar. The room was spotless with all you would need for an overnight stay. Great recommendation for places for dinner. Would definitely stay again and recommend people to stay.

A super place to stay! We stayed there on our way to Royan for our holiday and also chose to stay here on our return journey. We are so glad we did. It is excellent in every way. We had a place to park our car in their private gardens. The room we first had was lovely and it included a kettle (which is a nice touch in France) to make our own drinks if we wanted. The bed was extremely comfortable and the breakfast the following morning was very good. Sebastian made our stay there very comfortable. When we returned a couple of weeks later, we were greeted almost like old friends. We had a different room which again, was most comfortable. Would highly recommend this place to stay. We stayed here for the night after a lovely stay in another 3 star hotel. Unfortunately this one is different. We had a superior room which begs a word on what the basic ones are like. The hotel is characterless and the rooms *****ped back and basic. There was a shower with low water pressure and other than the squeezy bottle on the wall, no extra toiletries. Bedding was basic too. The French classification system is obviously wide, but this one didn't fit.

Easy to find, would have been useful if they had sent us the code for the parking gate in advance as we had to park up outside and go in and ask. The reception guy was quite off-hand, not at all welcoming. The main problem was the smell in the room. We went out to dinner leaving the windows wide open (not particularly secure as there was a flat roof outside our room), thinking the smell would dissipate but when we returned it was just as bad. So we slept with the windows wide open, fortunately it was a mild night. I mentioned it to the (different, slightly more cheerful) receptionist next morning and she explained that the carpets had recently been replaced. So what we could smell was carpet glue, nice!!

We used this hotel en route to the UK mid November because it was five minutes from the motorway and the secure parking was a must for us. We were so pleased with it that we used it on our return journey mid December.. It was warm and comfortable and extremely quiet despite it being in Alençon itself. For the second visit we reserved a garden room which was extremely spacious with huge curved sliding doors into the pleasant very large walled garden . It would be lovely in summer as there is a large terrace which also can be used for drinks from the bar . The manager was extremely helpful and reserved a table for us at a local restaurant both times . The rooms had excellent reverse AC and super hot modern radiators . The huge beds were comfortable and had lovely linen . The breakfast was extra but was varied and plentiful and well worth the money . We will definitely use it again on out trips to and from the UK .

The off road parking was the main reason for booking this hotel as we had a roof box on our car. The hotel overall is very clean, lovely garden. The minus side of this hotel for our group were as follows- No lift so if you have difficulty with stairs request a ground floor room. The bar never had anyone in attendance and could only see wine and spirits for sale, never found out as staff very hard to find. Also this has limited opening times. The bedroom has no tea making facilities. It doesn’t say any different on the website but I suppose I have come to expect this as standard in all hotels nowadays. Wardrobes in the bedroom are extremely cheap with no doors. Yes nothing major but the room was nice but this stood out like a sore thumb. Surely a few doors isn’t hard to fit to improve. Breakfast was overpriced for what was available. For the money we have stayed in far superior hotels with better facilities but overall it was sufficient for an overnight stay.
