"We had a great stay. The entire property is so lush, green and jungely. A true oasis and very well arranged. It is a large ptopery, but thanks to the different areas it doesn’t feel large. Our room was spacious, beds comfy. The fan was sufficient for the nights. Bathroom was small, but sufficient and clean. Wifi was not great in the room, but outside it was well working. The pools are a great plus in the heat of Zanzibar. The breakfast was a bit underwhelming, but there were not so many guests. Staff is friendly. You walk around 15 mins to the beach or local restaurants."

"Incredible place! We had the deluxe suite with view of the ocean. The room was large well furnished, beautifully decorated. Food was really tasty ( especially for the fish!). Staff is remarkable, kind and discret. Massages from the Spa are really efficient , with a good combo price/quality. Go ahead. You simply cannot be disappointed."

"We really enjoyed our stay at Kena Beach hotel, and would absolutely stay there again if we are lucky enough to return to Zanzibar in the future. Every single person there genuinely cares about the guest's experience. They all go out of their way to help you in any way they can. For example, on our last day, my family did the reef walk at low tide, and we all got a bit wetter than we though we would. I went to the front desk to ask whether they had a plastic bag for our wet things so that I could finish packing They instead offered to wash and dry our clothes before our driver was to pick us up (within 2 hours). That is going above and beyond! This is only one small anectode, but I feel like our whole week was that way. People just went out of their way to help the guests. Oh, and their mocktails are unbelievably good, especially the bush baby! My new favorite drink!!!!!"

"Villa Kiva, Matemwa is an oasis down a dusty track outside the village. Its beautiful well-maintained garden leads to the main building, where staff are well-trained and attentive. The room we had booked was at the back, overlooking the surrounding scrubland, but when staff realised we weren’t thrilled, they moved us to a much better room facing the sea. There is a huge shady area to catch the breeze, which we found a life-saver as the beach was too hot to sunbathe. Food here is excellent - and not as expensive as the surroundings would suggest. We only stayed 2 days, as we were covering a lot of the island in a 3 week trip, but would be happy spending a couple of weeks holiday here, which is what a lot of people seem to do. The village itself has a few shops, but no ATM. Our only problem was nothing to do with the hotel, just a local hassle-merchant, who threatened violence after shouting ‘no photo’ when I was photographing the palm trees fringing the beach - with no people in the shot"
