I was lucky enough to receive a gift voucher for Bovey Castle as a gift and what better way to spend it than enjoying a festive afternoon tea. Bovey Castle located within Dartmoor National Park is a stunning 5 Red Star, award winning country manor hotel, spa and golf resort, offering a first class luxury experience. We were greeted and welcomed by friendly doorman whom took our details and temperatures before we entered as part of their covid 19 precautions which was very reassuring. Once we were given the all clear we were shown to the Great Western Restaurant and told we were free to enjoy and explore the hotel. Full of country charm and character finished off with beautiful seasonal decorations, a stunning setting for a festive feast. Service was friendly and prompt. We were given the choice of tea's and coffee, and the option to add champagne, presecco or a glass of mulled wine to enhance your experience for a small charge. Afternoon tea was presented nicely, a delicious feast for the eyes and tasted even better than it looked. We opted for a glass of mulled wine to add an extra bit of festive cheer, which was full of seasonal flavours. The savoury tier offered the following finger sandwiches; Roast turkey and cranberry Mature cheddar cheese and onion Oak smoked salmon and lemon butter Honey roast ham and pickle Served with Chestnut and Clementine Sausage Roll and a Pear and Blue Cheese Quiche. Everything was super tasty and full of flavour. Our favourite being the chestnut and Clementine sausage roll. This was followed by the traditional Fruit and plain scones served with ample clotted cream and mulled wine jam. The jam was fruity with a hint of festive spice, delicious and novel although a little runny. This was accompanied by a slice of traditional stollen, a favourite of mine. The sweet tier offered Yule log with orange and vanilla butter cream Honey and cinnamon macaroon Cherry and pistachio choux Spiced apple mince pie Everything was delicious, nothing was too rich, we loved the honey a cinnamon macaroon with indulgent honey and cinnamon ganache. We really enjoyed our experience, and everything offered as part of our afternoon tea, stunning setting, great food and service. Would recommend and definitely come back for a special occasion. Perfect for a special treat.

My wife and I came to live in Devon, happily discovering The Ilsington hotel only seven minutes walk away. After three or four visits and stays, we have been hugely impressed by the comfort of the rooms, the range of facilities in the hotel and spa, the quality of the two restaurants, and above all by the excellence of service from the staff who create an atmosphere of calm combined with impeccable efficiency. An unexpected but perfect neighbour.

My wife and I were looking for a somewhere quiet for a couple of nights and found it at Moorland. The staff were so nice and professional, the room was immaculate, spotless and very nicely equipped with fantastic views across the Moors. All meals were excellent and staff first class. We have stayed in Hotels around the World and the Moorland is 10 out of 10.

My wife and I stopped at the Abbey Inn for a celebration meal with two friends and had a wonderful evening. We had booked and were met by Kelly, the landlady who was so friendly and helpful. We had a three course meal which was truly delicious and the chef took time out to come and see us. The pub is right by the river, has a great car park and is very clean and full of ambience. It turned out that the chef that night was the landlord, Phil who, like his wife, was very friendly; in fact all the staff were friendly and helpful. Anyone who is visiting Devon and is travelling between Exeter and Plymouth would be hard placed to find a better venue for a relaxing meal and a clean, pleasant room. I can't not rave about this place enough! I've become a frequent stayer here since January because of this. The staff are so friendly and welcoming and are very much willing to accommodate you, as a guest. There have been times where I have had to arrive early and they have more than willing to reserve my luggage and place it in my room before checking in, which is a huge weight lifted. The rooms are very clean and extremely organised - I haven't felt so comfortable there. I have stayed in other hotels (that are very known, due to company reputation and honestly aren't worth the price) in Exeter and this place is always the top contender. The free specialty hot drinks is always a plus, when you need a quick fix and it is easily accessible. As a woman who does travel solo here, this place is extremely safe and easy to access especially if you want to do something in town, uni or access other areas via train, as it is approximately 5 mins to Exeter Central and 10 mins to Exeter St David's. Please do give this place a try, you seriously won't be disappointed - this is absolutely my go-to recommend for anyone who wants to come to Exeter and will be coming here in future!

Arriving late in the evening, you could be easily mistaken in thinking it’s more like a motel or truck stop. However, this is definitely not so. In the morning you’re greeted warmly by friendly staff like Raj and Grant who simply can’t do enough. Breakfast is full English, toast, porridge, fresh fruit salad. Plenty of tea and coffee. We didn’t always need cleaners in our room, but when we did, not only did they tidy our bed but took the time to fold our personal clothing on the bed so it looked cared for - just like a touch of home! The room was clean and spotless. It’s a great hotel with a vibrant mix of staff. We didn’t use the hotel for evening meals but it seems to be very popular as it is for conferences and weddings. We’d definitely come back again.
