The red lanterns create a wonderfully ancient and atmospheric vibe – every photo you take looks like a traditional Chinese masterpiece. The location is superb, close to the North Gate of the Ancient City and Majia Courtyard, and just a 5-minute walk to the Ming and Qing Old Street. The owner is incredibly enthusiastic, offering pick-up and drop-off service at the ancient city gate, patiently explaining travel routes, helping to buy show tickets, and even giving Shanxi aged vinegar as a souvenir.”

„We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel. The staff was super friendly and helpful with recommendations for restaurants and things to see and helping us to transport our luggage out of the city walls. The room was small but cozy. The courtyard was very quiet and had a relaxed atmosphere which was great because the main alleys of Pingyao can be quite packed. The street that the hotel is on is currently undergoing renovation which means it’s a noisy and dusty when you step outside. The construction is not a big issue as it can not be heard inside the hotel.”

This guesthouse is a classic Shanxi-style two-story courtyard home, featuring intricate carved windows and painted corridors. They even offer photography services, making it easy to capture beautiful memories. The room facilities are complete, and the queen-sized beds are traditional 'kang' (heated brick beds), which are surprisingly good for your back. The place is clean and comfortable. The owner is very hospitable, even suggesting a city walk route for the ancient city and providing discount coupons for restaurants, as well as handmade vinegar as a souvenir. If you want to experience the authentic atmosphere of Pingyao Ancient City's guesthouses, I highly recommend staying here!”

I had a truly wonderful stay at this charming courtyard hotel in Pingyao, a perfect 10/10 experience. Although it’s a small property with only about 6–8 rooms, everything about it feels thoughtfully done and beautifully presented. The hotel is newly renovated, with tasteful decorations that blend traditional character with a fresh, comfortable atmosphere. What impressed me the most was the owner. He is incredibly friendly, warm, and genuinely helpful, his service goes far beyond expectations. From the moment I arrived, I felt well taken care of, and his sincerity really made the stay special. Location is superb! The room was spotless,  one of the cleanest I’ve experienced. I actually walked around and looked at a few other motels in Pingyao, and I can confidently say this one stands out as the best in terms of cleanliness, comfort, and overall quality. On top of all that, the price is very reasonable for what you get. It’s rare to find a place that offers such great value together with such heartfelt hospitality. Highly, highly recommended ,  I would definitely stay here again.

As soon as you enter the courtyard, you will see a very exquisite courtyard, which is clean and tidy. The courtyard is particularly quiet. When you enter the room, there is a very wide sofa area, which is very comfortable for watching TV. The space is indeed larger than the standard rooms in other houses in the ancient city. The store lady specially made the bed in the standard room much wider. It is very comfortable for one person to sleep on, and two people can sleep without feeling the space is tight. This detail is really great, I love it. I'm really attracted by her toiletries, they are so easy to use and I really like them. Her home is an ancient courtyard from the Qing Dynasty.

Excellent stay, perfect location in the middle of the anscient city. The owner is very helpful and flexible. He helped us to arrange oir visit to meishan mountain and helped with anything we needed. The room was clean, modern, and hot water was abundant with good pressure. I would come back anytime.

We had the best stay at Elswhwere Hotel West Gate. The building is restored it the nicest way really gives you the feeling of timetravel. The people working in the hotel, were carrying and welcoming. They explained us how to navigate the city, helped us buy tickets for the city sights, recommend restaurants and we even got a room upgrade and lovely gifts to take home and remember our time in Pingyao. The bed was so comfortable and we had the best sleep. Can recommend this hotel full heartedly. Would definitely come back! Thank you Helen and Fenny for making our stay so memorable.

We had a fantastic stay here, largely thanks to the incredibly helpful and kind host. The hotel is housed in a 300-year-old building, giving you a beautiful, authentic experience of ancient China, but the interior is fully updated and very calm. Arrival and Service: The host is highly organized. They arranged a free shuttle to pick us up the moment we stepped out of the Pingyao Gucheng railway station, and provided a free drop-off when it was time to leave. Upon arrival, the host sat down with a map, clearly explained how to navigate the walled city, and gave us great advice on what to prioritize. The Room: It looks ancient from the outside, but it is a spacious, spotlessly clean, modern hotel room on the inside. It features a large flat-screen TV and a smart voice-control system for the lights. The bathroom was immaculate and entirely modern, complete with an excellent shower and a heated toilet seat. I cannot believe they provide a room of this quality for such an affordable price. It is truly worth it. Location & Breakfast: The hotel is in a very convenient spot inside the Pingyao city walls, just a 10-minute walk to the evening light show. Breakfast is included. Rather than a standard buffet, they serve a nice traditional set meal featuring millet porridge (xiaomi), fried vegetables, and eggs (see my uploaded pictures). I highly recommend this place if you want top-tier hospitality and a clean, comfortable blend of ancient atmosphere and modern convenience.

Można śmiało powiedzieć, że to był jak dotąd najlepszy hotel w Chinach (a byłem w wielu miastach). Oferują bezpłatny odbiór z bramy miejskiej i z powrotem, skąd można łatwo dojechać taksówką na dworzec kolejowy (około 20 juanów). Hotel znajduje się w centrum starożytnego miasta, co dodatkowo potęguje jego wspaniałą atmosferę. Budynki hotelu są bardzo stare, ale w fantastycznym stanie (jakby wybudowane wczoraj). Już sam spacer do pokoju przez wiejski dziedziniec to niesamowite uczucie. Cały personel biegle władał językiem angielskim, był niezwykle gościnny i hojny. Sam pokój był bardzo przestronny i niesamowicie czysty. Wyposażony we wszystkie niezbędne udogodnienia, takie jak ogrzewanie i klimatyzacja, ekskluzywny router Wi-Fi. W łazience były dodatkowe buty, a nawet suszarka do włosów. Dostaliśmy świeże szczoteczki i pastę do zębów. Wanna również jest niesamowita, a deszczownica ma świetną temperaturę (co jest dla mnie ważne, ponieważ nie lubię bawić się mieszaczem wody). Jeśli planujesz pobyt w Pingyao (starożytnym mieście), mogę szczerze polecić to miejsce i na pewno zarezerwuję je ponownie podczas mojej następnej podróży do Pingyao.

Very good location. Within the old town and close to many attractions and to the lower west gate where taxis can drop passengers. Very good services from staff. The hotel was converted from an old mansion which is a tourist attraction in itself. Do note that there are steps between the entrance and most rooms. Also, our room was over two floors. While these steps and stairs do not bother us it is something to note.

Mój pobyt w Red Lantern Inn w Pingyao był absolutnie niezapomniany! Od momentu przyjazdu właściciel był niesamowicie przyjazny i zapewnił pełną obsługę gościnności. Zostałem nawet przywitany przemyślanym prezentem w postaci octu podczas zameldowania. Hotel jest wyjątkowy i uroczy, nie jest typowym nowoczesnym hotelem. Recepcja znajduje się w sklepie z przodu, ale nazwa hotelu jest wyraźnie wyświetlana, dzięki czemu łatwo go znaleźć. Wskazówki na Trip.com były dokładne i chociaż jest to trochę spacer od North Gate, warto. Atmosfera zajazdu jest czarująca, przenosząc Cię do starożytnych Chin. Pokoje są prosto zaprojektowane, ale bardzo wygodne. Hotel oferuje również wypożyczenie tradycyjnych strojów do zdjęć, co było przyjemnym doświadczeniem. Tym, co naprawdę się wyróżniało, była wyjątkowa obsługa. Właściciel pomógł nam zorganizować autobus na zwiedzanie, a nawet zapewnił bezpłatny przejazd na stację kolejową Pingyaogucheng, mimo że była dość daleko. Samochód był przestronny i wygodny. Na dokładkę doświadczyłem tutaj pierwszego opadu śniegu, co uczyniło mój pobyt jeszcze bardziej magicznym. Gorąco polecam Red Lantern Inn każdemu odwiedzającemu Pingyao. To miejsce, które oferuje nie tylko pobyt, ale także niezapomniane doświadczenie kulturowe!

自駕到古城，老闆娘給安排了古城牆下的停車場，20元一晚，客棧離西門停車場非常近，非常方便。客棧在古城步行街邊上，古典有特色，春節來院子裏大紅燈籠高高掛，十分喜慶，客棧十分適合旅拍，在客棧就能完成，期待旅拍的照片。老闆娘非常熱情❤️

Great location in the heart of Pingyao, yet the hotel was peaceful and quiet thanks to the side street. The hotel itself is beautiful, with many courtyards decorated with lanterns. Our room wasn't ready, but we were given another, much larger and more luxurious. Highly recommended.
