Archway Guest House

Hosts were so niceeeee! The room was comfortable with a great mountain view. I really love the breakfast. And can walk only 5 minutes to the railway station and 3 minutes to the bus stop.

Wonderful guesthouse to stay in and visit the Lake District. Room was nice and clean ! Hosts Anita and Denis were super hospitable and friendly, and whipped up a fantastic Caribbean breakfast (Saltfish Fritters) and Full English Breakfast for us each morning :) Highly recommended for anyone who wishes to stay at Windermere !

I’ve just returned home from a fabulous walking weekend in The Lake District with friends. Anita and Dennis at The Archway offered a very warm welcome indeed and were perfect hosts throughout our stay. Pretty much all dietary requirements and restrictions were catered for at our lovely breakfasts and Dennis’s Caribbean option was definitely worth a try! One of our friends was able to have breakfast with us at The Archway as she was staying ‘room only’ elsewhere - so that was a kind gesture. Our accommodation was simple, homely, convenient and clean. Anita and Dennis made it a home from home and nothing was too much trouble. Perfect hosts!

I had to drive to Barrow in furness to pick up some items but decided to stay in winderemere overnight instead of driving home , we chose the Archway based on very favourable reviews , we booked online and we were kept well informed regarding checking in and out times plus tips on local places to visit and to eat , which I thought was very nice , on arrival we were greeted by Anita who made us feel so very welcome , we were shown to our room and everything was explained to us regarding the utilities , we were also given two slices of lemon drizzle to go with our cuppas which we thought was very nice indeed . Our room was very clean and the modern shower was hot and powerful , the bed was very comfortable too . Our hosts were super friendly to us and were very attentive while we had a fantastic breakfast the following morning , nothing was too much trouble and I cannot recommend The Archway guest house any more highly , the location is very central to the middle of the town and we were not disturbed by any traffic noise at all , we have stayed in quite a few b&b and hotels in Winderemere and the Archway is up there with the best and we really are looking forward to staying here in the very near future .... *****

Anita and Denis are incredible hosts. We had a lovely time in the house which was equipped well and the rooms were cozy yet modern. The breakfast every morning was delicious. The recommendations the hosts made for places to visit were perfect as well. They were both always on hand to make suggestions or we loved our conversations with them.

We had a lovely stay, Denis and Anita are very accommodating. The guesthouse is a fabulous place to explore from and the lemon cake on arrival was a brilliant touch. The superior room is a great size and home made cookies were provided. An exceptional breakfast is included, we will definitely return!

We couldn't fault any aspect of our stay at The Archway Guesthouse. The hosts Anita and Dennis were so welcoming and so friendly. The room was clean, and spacious and the bed so comfortable. Breakfast was yummy and we will definitely be going back. Location is ideal for local shops,pubs,restaurants and bars and Bowness is about a 20 minute walk away. My wife and I spent 3 weeks in England and Scotland in October 2023 and stayed at a variety of places. Some were not great, but The Archway Guesthouse stands out as one that we will remember fondly. Anita was a wonderful welcoming host and the location was perfect. The room was spacious with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. The bathroom was huge with a wonderful rain type shower head. So much nicer than most European hotels or B&B's. My wife and I are not big breakfast eaters, but there was more than enough choice to satisfy us. The central part of Windermere is literally a 2 minute walk from the house. We were able to find parking on College Road right in front of the house and it wasn't the type of street where you have to worry about paying for parking or having your car towed. Anita recommended a couple of great restaurants, one of which was Hooked. This was one of the most pleasant dining experiences I'd ever had when considering the food, personable service and small restaurant atmosphere. And I've dined out at some very nice places in many parts of the world. Anita recommended a nice little hike just a few minutes away that took us through some beautiful woods up to a great view of the area. One day we took a cab up to Ambleside (there are also busses that run there frequently for lower cost) and wandered around that area, then took a boat ride back to Browness-on-Windermere where we had a short walk back to the cottage. Truly wonderful experience that left us with pleasant memories. A highlight of our 3-week trip, even though we were only there for a couple of days.

If there were ever a perfect place to call heaven on earth, then Archway Guest House would be it. Made to feel so welcome from start to finish and the breakfasts I had on both mornings were to die for. The Windermere Suite was so comfy and homely, and the view from the window was spectacular. Denis and his son, Stephen, could not do enough for me and were really helpful with local information and allowing me to leave my luggage on my departure day while I went out walking in the hills. I will most definitely be back again in future, and will highly recommend Archway to family and friends when I return to Scotland. Thank you so much for making my stay one of the most memorable I’ve ever had.
