Villars Lodge
Villars Palace
"We stayed at Villars Palace at the end of October, during the off-season. The hotel was completely refurbished about three years ago and is beautifully decorated. They have preserved the original 1913 structure, which gives the property genuine character and charm. The mountain views are magnificent. We were upgraded to a junior suite instead of the superior panorama room we had booked, as there was a mix-up at check-in and we had to wait for the room to be ready. The suite had no fridge and no bathtub, but two showers. The bed and pillows were way too firm, and we didn’t sleep well. Breakfast on the first day was below 5-star expectations: short-staffed service, only four types of bread and two jams (with no indication of provenance), fresh fruits that seemed imported (berries, pineapple, strawberries), and Eggs Florentine that were bland. There was no bread grill, and it took a long time to get toast when requested. On Sunday, breakfast was moved to the beautiful ballroom, which created a much more pleasant atmosphere. There were also more bread options, a bread grill, and a better overall selection (a noticeable improvement). Unfortunately, the Eggs Benedict remained tasteless. There is no room service, which feels surprising for a hotel in this category. Only one restaurant (“Le 1913”) was open during our stay, with limited vegetarian options, and the bar menu was also quite restricted. On the positive side, Fanny at the spa reception deserves special mention for her kindness and professionalism. She helped us organize our treatments and provided excellent advice even before our arrival. The fitness area is spacious and well equipped. We booked a private coaching session (CHF 200/50 min). Quite expensive but professional. Afterwards, we enjoyed a 90-minute deep-tissue massage, which was excellent. Special thanks to Céline and Katerina, both highly skilled masseuses who made the experience memorable. Unfortunately, we couldn’t fully enjoy the sauna and jacuzzi, as they were quite busy and there seemed to be only one person cleaning and replacing towels and slippers, so the area didn’t feel as pristine or relaxing as expected for a 5-star spa. As for Villars, it’s a charming alpine village, but in the off-season it loses much of its winter atmosphere — many shops and restaurants are closed. It might be worth returning in peak season when the resort is livelier, though prices — already high — will likely rise further."

Alpe Fleurie Residence
"Charming i typowy mały szalet hotel. Świetna centralna lokalizacja w wsi. Pokoje są czyste i proste. Receptarzy, Caroline i Ana są super, nic nie jest zbyt kłopotliwe i informacje, które oferują jest doskonałe."
Hotel du Nord
"The hotel is located in the centre of the town, looked nice on the website, so after walking about 25km on the Via Francegina (our first day's walking), we were looking forward to relaxing there. We got there at 4.45 in the late afternoon. We had already advised in advance it would be a late arrival due to our trek. We were advised check-in was up to 7pm in the evening. So relieved we got there, we decided to go for a drink, before checking in, freshening up etc. We had just ordered drinks in the nearby bar, when I got a phone call from the receptionist, who had seen us outside the hotel, (as we discussed what to do), to say that we had to check in immediately. I explained we would be there shortly and she advised us, on no uncertain times, that we must check in immediately. So we left our drinks and did so. We tried to explain our relief at walking the 25km and to celebrate it by having a drink, but she was having none of it, and no apology for the drinks we had to leave behind. She snapped 'passports'. I tried to explain that we understood check-in was until 7 and hence we didn't know of the urgency. She simply said, that she was in the hotel all day on her own and she had to get transport home. I again reminded her that check -in was until 7 and she said 'not today'. I calmly advised again that we were not advised of the earlier check-in, and she simply snapped again about payment, with a very cross face and with no eye-contact, There was no chance to ask questions about facilities in the hotel or elsewhere. She was closing up and not only the reception but the hotel itself would not be manned for the rest of the night. We had to have a code to enter the hotel and if we forgot it, we would have to ring a number. She was cross, rude and totally unprofessional . Never have I experienced such rudeness in the hospitality sector. The room was adequate and clean but over-priced for what was provided. The carpets in the central hallways were stained and required a vacuum. The hotel is classed as a hotel, but apart from the fact that it provides breakfast in the morning, I question how it gets that category. Breakfast was a buffet and had a minimalist selection. No other services whatsoever. The only redeeming feature was that the girl assisting with the breakfast, of Sri-Lankan origin, had a lovely smile and was helpful. I noted from other reviews, that other clients had similar 'cool' experiences. A friendly welcome would have made all the difference, despite it being overpriced. I would NOT recommend staying here."
Chalet RoyAlp Hotel and Spa
"The hotel is elegant with lovely rooms but my visit was ruined by 2 things. 1) my IPad was unable to connect to the guest internet and no one was able to help. I was told it was ‘illegal’ for the hotels IT person to help me. Someone also mentioned there have Benn problems with Mac laptops and IPads because of some security issues. I spent hours trying to sort it out as I needed the IPad for writing…my iPhone worked but wasn’t up to editing docs. I would not recommend using this hotel if you rely on your IPad until they figure out what the problem is. Note it worked fine at the man in conference hotel (Villars Palace) and every other hotel on my trip. 2) even worse was that at the first breakfast buffet several of us got sick ( we suspect sausages) with a debilitating tummy upset that meant frequent trips to bathrooms during conference and ruined a subsequent hiking holiday. I had to go to pharmacy doc and it still isn’t ok. Sorry to be so negative as I usually give very positive reviews."
