Normally, even former government-run guesthouses wouldn't be this bad these days; even asking locals on the street wouldn't tell you the same thing. Such reception desks and hotels are truly uncommon these days. The hotel's breakfast (the restaurant staff were quite good) was actually quite acceptable; at least it was clean and filling. The plus side is that both the room and bathroom have heating, which made the room quite warm when the weather started to get cold, reflecting the typical Northeastern temperature. Compared to similar hotels (of this tier) in Erdao Baihe Town, the value for money here is quite different. Next time, I'll try the hotel with the large rooftop by the river (Zhi?yuan); perhaps it's not always the same. The above isn't a complaint, but simply a hope that the staff can do better.
