I stayed at the same plan and room type, and stayed on the same day of the week. The service is similar, but not as relentlessly attentive as at Futari Shizu. The clientele is not as concentrated on elderly customers as at Futari Shizu, but seems to be of all ages, but the number of guests is less than half that of Shizu, perhaps due to the size of the hotel. The baths are similar, but the temperature of the water at Yamabuki is better, and you can take a bath in the indoor bath even late at night (of course, if your room has a hot spring, you can take a bath anytime). The overall renovation at Yamabuki is a little inferior, but I'm grateful that you can sleep on a normal bed instead of a wooden bed like at Futari Shizu. Now, about the food. At Yamabuki, all the dishes were easy to eat, the salt concentration was uniform, and I felt it was elegant. Yamabuki won by a landslide. Given how different the food is, if I had to choose again I would go for Yamabuki."
