"What an authentically pleasant place to stay!old world charm and modern day amenities can't be beat. The proprietors is no kind and attentive. The place is very clean and the bed was super comfortable. Our room was spacious and warm (important to a Floridian). Breakfast was great!"

"This review is NOT about the hotel. It is about fishing. The hotel is fabulous from memory. We camped locally this time for a change as we had the dogs, so it was better for us. I took a days fishing on the Lyd. I fished this river 15 years ago (Home Beat). Clear fresh water and lots of fish. I can not begin to explain how utterly disappointed I was this week to return to more or less the same stretch (Bottom Beat). There is a very evident brown sludge on the river bottom consistent with sewage dumping upstream. The colour was uniform across the river bed which is a distinguishing characteristic of water companies dumping during storms, or, whenever they seem to think it is appropriate for their bottom line... I blanked, which I never do. I also looked at a trusted website to check recent data regarding sewage dumps. Well, no surprise, I found some recent activity upstream that feeds into the Lyd. Keep in mind that water companies are openly devious and do not publish every instance of discharge. I fished half of the beat and left feeling a bit let down. Ghillies and keepers always tell you what you need to hear, any shooter or fisherman of long standing knows this. I received the comforting spiel.... Not for me again, I'm afraid, at least not until the water is more acceptable. "
